As the muggles say 'The truth will out' yes?
The Nike Turds aren't going to like this. They'll start smearing Goucher again hoping the noise will change things.
I read the article. btw, as I understand the NY times policy, they give you free access to any 10 articles than you have to pay to view any more. I just happen to have a digital subscription.
A couple interesting things about it. Numerous unnamed athletes have given USADA written consent to have Brown share information. Nevertheless it seems Brown has refused to speak to Usada. Hence the court action.
Also, much of the article talks about the thyroid issue which Brown is mostly known for. Only buried at the bottom of the article does it mention Brown consulting Salazar on the androgel experiment. Yet I imagine it is that experiment that Usada has question about. The hypothyroidism treatment maybe controversial. But it seems like that has been fully out in the open for years and its not illegal in any case.
Thanks for the summary, Ryan F.
--"Brown has refused to speak to Usada"
Bad decision by Brown. Doesn't matter if there is nothing to see here in Brown's mind. Not talks comes across in a bad light.
--"mention[s] Brown consulting Salazar on the androgel experiment."
Brown has clients other than NOP/Salazar. The USADA likely wants to talk to Brown about all athletes he treats.
This means that the investigation is still going... and that Salazar is going down... somebody wake up the Brojos!
And Ken goe will write an article defending NOP/sleazy in three two one...

Between Reedie at WADA and Coe, a Nike contractor, they would have had to have royally screwed up. Here's hoping!!!!
It's obvious Dr. Brown was doing shady stuff. You cannot have athletes flying to Texas for any other reason. Otherwise you would have to believe there was only one qualified endocrinologist in the U.S. and just accept the sudden outbreak of endocrinology crises in Track and Field as normal.
Let's hope USATF is dragged down, again. I eagerly await the entertaining prepared statements with little basis in fact.
Good times!

What fun for Alberto!!!
The investigation is NOT OVER for Alberto 'Androgel' Salazar.
An excerpt:
Mr. Salazar also wrote that Dr. Brown had helped him conduct an experiment amid heightened concern in the track world that athletes could be sabotaged by someone rubbing a tainted substance on them.
They rubbed Androgel, a synthetic form of testosterone, on the test subjects — Mr. Salazar’s sons — to determine whether a small amount might set off a positive drug test. They ultimately determined that it was extremely unlikely that such a sabotage could happen.
Alberto Salazar does not have any authorization to conduct an 'experiment' rubbing the controlled drug Androgel on his two sons as 'test subjects'.
Did his two sons have a prescription from a doctor for Androgel at the time of the 'experiment'?
If they did not have a prescription, then Alberto is breaking various federal drug laws of the United States by administering a controlled substance to two people who don't have a prescription for that drug. Alberto Salazar is not a doctor and can't write prescriptions for any drug.
Alberto also consulted with Dr. Brown about how large a dose would cause a positive test for testosterone.
There is nothing to see here.
Please go back to sleep Alberto.
Sleep well and have nice dreams.
No worries.
What fun!!!
According to a New York Times article now available online, USADA has filed papers in court seeking to compel Dr. Brown - the endocrinologist associated with diagnoses of hypothyroidism - to sit for a deposition. The article states that the deposition is being sought in connection with the "continuing investigation" of Salazar.
Update: Thread title changed and link to article included (it's readable without paying)
So did Kara Goucher, when she was with Wetmore the first time, before she was ever coached by Salazar.

That was not an excerpt of the NY Times article. Only the first two paragraphs were. But it does bring up a conundrum that Epstein pointed too. Even by Salazar's admission some rules were broken that outside of the jurisdiction of the USADA. Things like hiding pills to get them through customs, and perhaps distribution of illegal drugs. Epstein honestly didn't know if it was usada's place to pursue those things.
So did Steve Magness, years before he ever started working with the NOP.http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=1337043I could keep going, but I won't.

Salazar did multiple things that might not be illegal but that are doping practices. Here's a few things that clean coaches don't do:
- Private testing to make sure a doping agent cleared from an athlete's system.
- Conduct experiments on clearing time of doping agents.
- Prescribe medications.
- Change the way athletes take a medication.
Always, always, always go the the heaviest client/user. The haul is always greater.

The testosterone experiment is the strangest piece to come out of last year's story and it is hard to understand. As I recall, Salazar said he told USADA about it at the time. I do not see that in the article so maybe it is not the case. Even if he did disclose it at the time, it would be interesting to hear the context and the communications around it. There may be non-USADA issues raised as well.
The main part of the article refers to how Brown operated with thyroid medication with lots of athletes, including 15 gold medalists. I wonder how broadly USADA intends to investigate. They could theoretically look into a whole lot of people.
