It's interesting to compare China 32 years ago to China today (no longer the Sick Man of Asia, and no longer so separated from the rest of the world). I think Zhang Guowei, poised to surpass Zhu if things go well in coming years, kind of parallels the shift (at least the metaphor works when you compare the sheltered, nervous, but immensely talented Zhu to the confident, effervescent, and maybe equally talented Zhang).
