easy, you really lack aerobic endurance. with your mileage, it's easier to be better at something short distance. you could say you're "speed based" but i don't know what your 400 and 800 times are.
Are you fat, or just big? I am big not too fat, and though a slow twitch endurance type runner, I do not have much range racing because of the extra size. Not easy to work around because my easy pace, based on a mile- 5k race, is actually LT level due to the extra weight.
A lot of people don't seem to get it either. They think a giant who has a decent mile and looks pretty good running it , should run a good 10 k or marathon.
Maybe this is the issue?

I will echo some stuff here.
You are either overweight or you have horrible endurance or a medical issue that is preventing you from running a faster 2 mile. A 5:20 miler should be able to run 11:20 for 2 miles.
SO...
Either lose weight, OR run more miles OR see a doctor OR do all three.

What's the longest run you do?
Try working up to 5-7 miles or so continuously, once a week.
Run some of your 2-4 mile runs super, super slow and easy. Try to be as relaxed as possible, see how little breathing you can do while still running.
When you feel good, run faster for those 3-7 mile runs.
Your 2 mile time will likely fall quickly.

Some milers to HUGE volume! Do a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot more of easy miles.
Even on 15 miles a week there is no way the discrepancy could be that wide.
Honestly, you should be able to run your 5:20 mile, walk for 20 seconds and then jog the second mile in 8:09 to get that two mile time.
Its easier for me to run a mile in 5;35 than a mile in 6:50. Just a single mile, honestly I think it is just I have shit endurance.
400 is 1:08 800 is 2:26
Not big or fat but maybe 4-5lb over racing weight
Ya will do guys thanks btw
Either you're a troll or you have a medical problem.
There is no way this is an endurance problem. Someone with lack of endurance won't be able to run 5:20 mile. Just not gonna happen.
Obviously this dude is a troll.
His supposed PR's in other distances give it away.
No way someone who runs just a 68 for 400, is capable of running a 2:26 800 ,and then a 5:20 mile unless they have VERY rare and highly trained endurance. In my experience I've seen only a couple people come close to that ratio (I know about the 5 second rule but that goes out the window with slower times and ratio's are better predictors). But don't take my word for it, Just looking at the Daniels tables, a 68 would equate to a 2:30 with some training. A 2:30 would equate to a 5:31 mile with some training.
Yet somehow his highly trained endurance goes away when he doubles from a mile to a 2 mile? Yeah right. He's lying about one or the other or everything.
Dude I'm thirteen and I do 5:50 and 12:16- both on the same meet. Last year I ran a 13:40 with a 6:25 PR. Something is wrong or this is a troll.
you need more endurance, that's what it seems like anyways
Increase your mileage and give it some time. Increase slowly and work in some longer runs.
