A friend recently suggested that you couldn't wear a blue shirt with blue jeans. Too much blue.
I see jeans as neutural and that they don't count against the other clothing you are wearing.

I wouldn't wear jeans with a shirt that is the same shade as the jeans, but wearing a lighter-blue chambray shirt with a pair of dark blue jeans is fine.
If you are wearing light blue jeans with a light blue oxford shirt, it could look stupid. Just pair the colors right and it will be fine.
Pics?
In the 1980s we would wear a denim shirt with our Levi's 505 or 550s, plus a Levi's denim jacket. You could vary the color of the denim of course. Stone washed was a big deal then.
It's called "indigo."

Yes, this was referred to as a "Texas Tuxedo" by the liberals and a "Mexican Tuxedo" by the conservatives.

Tell Jerry that he's wrong and that there's nothing wrong with your Canadian Tuxedo.
