Please express your support to LRC's Jon Gault in this difficult time. Seriously, the guy must be crushed.
Man, it has been a rough two weeks to be English. Yikes!
England exits the Euro!!!

England "Gomes" Home...?
What's crushing is this site's ongoing insistence upon torturing the English language.
Was England ranked high or something? How is this an upset?
Sorry, I don't follow soccer. Were they one of the favorites to win the Euro?
No idea but England has sucked internationally for at least the last 2 decades (since I've paid any attention to international soccer). They haven't won sh!t in forever.

But there are 300,000 people in Iceland and their coach is a part-time dentist.
Another devastating Brexit.
But this time its the Scots who are laughing

Never understood that. Scotland didn't even get near to getting to France.
England were shocking, but they can't out-do Scotland on the being completely useless front.
Maybe the Welsh could laugh a bit though.
And in Iceland they get their heat by sucking it out of volcanoes. Otherwise only a few thousand people could live there.
What looks like a HUGE upset on paper, isn't.
Yes, England has some stars (Vardy, Rooney,...) and they beat Germany (in Germany!) in their prep, and overall can draw from a talent pool that is millions deep (compare to the overall population of Iceland of 300k)....
But:
Iceland probably has the best talent development program worldwide. At least in terms of ROI.
They build some first class facilities where kids can play year round (indoor).
Also, of course, in this case, for them it was their opportunity of a lifetime. For England, it was a nuisance.
Nonetheless, congratulations.
I have a feeling they will lose to France but they will put on a fight.

In the FIFA rankings as of the beginning of the tournament, England was #11 in the world and Iceland was #34.
USA ranked #31.

I fixed the thread title.
Hoping that France wins it all.
