Looks like he also worked with Rally Sports (gym) cycling team - this is where a couple elite running groups (Hudson) and Frank Shorter train in Boulder.

Please do not drink and drive. Who cares if you kill yourself. Think of other people and their families.

The interesting thing is that this was a Dodge Durango that went into the bike lane, hit the cyclist with no sound of brakes (according to witnesses) and continue driving. Suspect was later apprehended miles away and charged with vehicular homicide, hit and run, and DUI.
Letsrun deleted an earlier post on this for some reason - is it because it appears to not have anything to do with running?. This event relates to running because it hit the RUNNING and cycling community hard in Boulder, so not sure why it was deleted. After Cameron bean of zap fitness got mowed down and now this cyclist, IMO we should raise awareness about this.

The woman had multiple DUIs and DWIs it's beyond me how she was allowed to get behind the wheel again.

She did like 2 days of jail time for one of them
This is why i sold my road bike and bought a mountain bike. Couple of recent deaths in my city.
With texting and driving the roads are more dangerous than ever.
Unfortunately this was a woman who was in trouble many times in the past for the same thing

This/\
I haven't biked on the road in years. When I run at least half the people are on cell phones and don't even see me. If biking with traffic, you have no chance.
Tragic story.
Too soon, but why an immediate gofundme for that large an amount? Wouldn't someone for that large company with kids have life insurance?
Again, tragic story and sorry if this is tacky to bring up, but why not ask for donations to MADD instead on his behalf?
This is why I would never bike or run again (I used to when I was a teenager) on roads with cars. In the linked story, they mention two other cyclists killed recently by cars in the same readership area.
Sucks. The driver of that car needs to be put away for life. It IS appropriate though to have the discussion that it just is not safe to run or bike on roads with cars. Doesn't matter if there's a lane or not or if you have the right or not. Collisions with cars are unforgiving. I have the right to drink myself into a stupor every day if I want, but I don't do that.
Same here - I would not think of cycling on the roads in and around Boulder. I moved to the area in the early 90s and things were great. I sold my road bike in early 2000s. Things had changed by then, roads filled with aggressively driving soccer moms, jacked up on Starbucks while yakking on the cell phone.

Why is "Google software engineer" relevant? Is this somehow a greater loss of life than otherwise?

MASS INCARCERATION, MAN! WE HAVE A PRISON SYSTEM WHOSE VASTNESS HAS NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE THE SOVIET GULAGS.
Seriously, she should suffer these consequences:
1) Sterilization so she can't pass on her genes that are conducive to addictive behavior
2) Put her on the No Drive list (but first create the No Drive list)
3) Put her in jail. Five to 10 should be about right.

Because Freedom. The easiest way to murder someone is to run them over. It's not a crime if you hide the pre-meditation.
If the driver goes to jail, it's for the DUI, not killing someone. It happens all the time in California. Just don't be drunk when you kill someone with a car and everything is fine.
The gal was seen laughing hysterically after the accident. A local product of affluence.

Colorado did not have any kind of felony DUI until just the last few weeks I believe.
Which is shocking considering the booze and Marijuana industries are booming.
I lived there for a year. When someone asks me about it, usually the first thing I mention is the high incidence of pedestrians getting killed in hit and runs.
Living in Colorado, that kind of news is suppressed. I hear that from out of state friends.
Currently there is no standard of driving while high.
This is sad. Bikes and cars are a poor combination. Bike riders have the law on their side, but they lose every confrontation with a car. A car driver's moment of inattention or a mistake is a catastrophe for the bike rider.
In this case it sounds like an impaired driver was at the wheel. In a car a person has a chance against an impaired driver. The bike has no chance.
