I'm currently an 800m runner that's looking to improve on the track and on the course. I'm a 26:36 8k runner and a 1:54.03 800m runner and I feel like I'm stuck. I can't seem to breakthrough in either sport and don't seem to be great at anything. I'm about to start my Junior year of college track and I want to know if I'm just wasting time by not specializing? I've read through forms and a lot of 800m guys don't build up the kind of mileage that I do during cross. I'm currently at 80 miles per week and I'm aiming to get to 95-100 by the end of the summer. I'm doing one workout a week right now and a lot of easy runs. I really would like someone to critique my running schedule and my life to see what I need to be doing right. Here's what my weeks are at right now:
Mon. 9 AM miles, 4 PM miles
Tues. 9 AM miles, 4 PM miles
Wed. 10 AM miles (avg.) at a hilly place and repeat every hill we find, 3 PM miles
Thurs. 9 AM miles, 4 PM miles
Fri. 6 AM miles
Sat. 16 AM miles around 6:45-7:00 pace
Sun. 6 AM miles
TL;DR Version: I suck and need to know if my running schedule sucks and if I'm doing too much base building for 800m training.
This is my first time posting on the forums and feel free to ask any questions that would help with your answers. Thanks guys.
