Got to be kicking himself he didn't even attempt the trials 10k if he's in this kind of shape on the roads.

solid shape--he should be running the Trials 10k, no doubt.
I thought Ritz retired.....
IS HE BACK?????
Could he get into the trials with this road time? USATF can let anyone in that they want...remember Goucher in 2008?
Pretty sure (though not certain) road 10k times were allowed for Olympic qualification at one point in the past. Is this or has this ever been the case for OT qualifying?
Ritz is an animal
Goes to also prove that ritz is not and never was a marathoner. In all of his career name a bad performance below the marathon besides his 2005 world cc race? I'll wait... There isn't one. All his "bad races" comes from his marathons. It's sad to think about what might had been had he really used that 8:11/ 12:56 speed and took the Kennedy route instead of believing he something that he isn't.
saladbar hooked him up with the new juice!
Great to see him crushing the roads. Hope he does the big road circuit for a few years. Nobody cares about track.

Goes to prove? You think 28:12 is much better than his marathons? It's not.
28:12 is way more competitive over every marathon time he's ever run besides the 2:07 ish in Chicago. His fastest time after that is 2:09.55. My argument is ritz spent past 10 years training so much for marathon and not racing he probably missed out on some peak performances. After a summer of 12:56/27:22 why would u not really hone that speed and get faster. He cramps badly in every marathon. Even as early as 9 miles in LA heat. He isn't a marathoner. I still believe he could challenge for a medal at world xc. But his mind is all over the marathon.
Ritz could indeed ask for an exemption based on his history. He'd likely get it.

I think most people and even Ritz would agree that the marathon is not his best event. Unfortunately, that is where the money is.
In his interview after the race, he goes on about wanting to placing high in future major marathons.
His 12:56 was an epic performance but despite that time for a 5K, he will get his doors blown off in a kickers 5K or 10K when all he can muster is a 60second last lap.

This is a very good performance by Ritz.
He should see if he can run the 10k at the trials.
USATF-Nikeâ„¢ can just do whatever they feel like in their decision.
Just Do It.

Yes, you can't make a living running track 10ks -- there are so few races. It's not about running fast at a particular distance and then thinking the money will just flow your way. Some distances attract money more than others, the marathon being one, the 10k NOT being one. If you're a pro you have to go where the money is.

??? Kennedy route??? His 12:56 is faster than Kennedy. They have the same number of championship medals. And ritz is minutes faster than Kennedy in the 1/2 and full marry.
But BK did lead the Olympic 5k final in the last mile and did have spikes named after him. So there's that.
Short or aided course?
In case anyone is wondering, per David Montii's Twitter, Ritz isn't interested in petitioning his way into the Trials 10,000m, even after this performance:
https://twitter.com/d9monti/status/747111996282310657
.
I think he should reconsider. He even says it's going to "suck" watching the Trials next week (and has said it will be weird watching Rio from home). If that's the case, he should go for it. He would have a shot at making the team. He has as good a shot as everyone except for Rupp (and maybe True, although he has made clear his preference for the 5,000m).
But, I guess instead he'll focus on a fast time at Chicago this fall and take a run at a podium spot at Boston next April.
You all realize the trials are less than a week away right?
No way he would be competitive after a hard effort less, than a week before and if he isn't going to qualify no point in running the trials.
