How do you get the required amount of potassium during the hot-weather months? I'd like to hear from those of you who have thought about this. I never have. But I'm finding Mississippi's summer weather harder to deal with this time around, and since one of the things that I've cut out of my diet is Gatorade--I didn't want the calories, preferring huge glasses of water after runs--I'm starting to wonder if I've miscalculated.
Do you take supplements? Potassium gluconate seems to be what comes up first.
Do you do it all with diet? Have you ever come to the realization that you were running poorly in the heat because of a potassium deficit and then, having upped your daily dose, suddenly sprung back to life?
What are the signs of potassium deficit--not as described in the literature, but as you've actually experienced them?
Apart from potassium, what other electrolytes do you pay attention to replenishing during the warm-weather months? Sodium, obviously, but what else? Magnesium, for example? Do you take magnesium supplents.
