How long to do aerobic training? Is there a limit a day?

So if aerobic training is the base for a good long distance runner.

How long can you train and keep improving a day? is there a limit of the benefits of an aerobic session?

If my legs are tired can i just hop to an elliptical and get the same benefits that will help my running?

I mean why not just run a looot and do things like 3 -4 hours of elliptical? is there a downside for aerobic improvement doing a lot? how many sessions 2 -3 a day? Is there point where i dont get the benefits anymore in session?

If you want to do Iron Man, maybe 25-40 hours a week bike run and swim.

5k and below , more than 7 hours a week not going to help much, you need the high intensity and recovery from that.

10k-Marathon 10-15 hours a week. Need recovery from long runs and some workouts.

Down side, you should be recovering, resting, doing strength training etc.

You can run for hours every day at 70% of your maximum oxygen uptake and still do speed work. You have to find out what works for you.
