You should go see a doctor. I had tremendous heel pain which kept me from walking - nevermind running - I went to the doctor and found out I had plantar fasciitis. Go to the doctor if you haven't already!
Bottom of heel? If so, probably plantar fasciitis, especially if it is very painful in the morning on your first step out of bed.
Back of heel? If so, probably achilles tendinosis. Do eccentric heel drops. I'll let you research that.
Had them both. The heel drops and loosening the calfs with The Stick took care of the achilles.
Plantar fasciitis, on the other hand, is a mean, hateful cvnt.

I couldn't agree more! Plantar fasciitis is a nasty, nagging b***h -- but, with the right shoes, stretches and recuperation, you can come back from it only a little worse for the wear. I would definitely recommend going to see a podiatrist if the pain is in your heel. I put off going when I was first struck by heel pain because I was afraid of the diagnosis. But after learning I had plantar fasciitis and adjusting my footwear, stretching routine and regimen, I've been able to get back to roadwork and running 5x a week. Chin up!
