After Harambe was killed, there was an outpouring of rage across the country that Haramabe had lost his life needlessly, and there were even calls for the parents of the child who wandered into Harambe's enclosure to be charged. Not long after, 50 innocent people were killed in a massacre in Orlando. This comes in the wake of similar senseless acts of violence involving shootings:
Blacksburg, VA, (32 dead)
Newtown, CT, (27 dead)
Killeen, TX (22 dead)
San Ysidro, CA (21 dead)
San Bernadino, CA (14 dead)
Edmond, OK (14 dead)
Fort Hood, TX (13 dead)
Binghamton, NY (13 dead)
Aurora, CO (12 dead)
Seven of these 10 massacres took place in the last 10 years, and yet, these people seem to have died in vain. These victims, like the ones in Orlando, seem to be quickly forgotten about by the American public, so much so that in order to even get a vote on gun-control to take place, House Democrats have to stage a sit-in on the house floor (who knows whether this tactic will bear fruit). Why do so many Americans care about the lives of their pets or animals in zoos more than they do the lives of the fellow citizens? How many people need to be killed by guns before American citizens demand that their country join the rest of the civilized world in how they deal with guns and gun rights?
