Not a shill, just found this interesting. The race must be 800m and up, and there are no minimum time standards that I can see. Starts today and ends August 31st.

Well, lets see how many negative PR cheat try to get the $250. Claim a slower PR than you have run, and "win" the free money.
the thing is you have to do it by Aug 31. This is great if you live in maine or alaska, but for most of the nation pr'ing in the summer isn't going to happen, unless you're a kid just hitting puberty.

Or elite runners, who want to peak in August or Sept. But yeah, for the people this is presumably directed at, not a good time of year for PRs.
Hmm. My road 10k pr is 4min slower than my xc 10k. Wonder if they care about road vs track vs xc.
Doesn't seem like much verification for the prior pr on the submittal form.
I suppose someone could do a distance they've never done before, like a college kid could do a 10k or half marathon fairly slow, tempo pace at best, then race one all out later in the summer and collect.
$250 bucks? Wow. That's a lot. I'd make it like $50. I'm friends with the CEO Matt Taylor. I hope he doesn't go bankrupt. I guess he knows I'd be hardpressed to PR in a car.

No, the rules say no first-time performance at a distance counts.

You are run two races between now and August.
people still have to make a Tracksmith purchase to win the money. it's a good marketing approach.

In the terms and conditions, they specifically say:
"You do not need to purchase Tracksmith products to enter this contest – you are welcome to beg, borrow or steal (well, maybe not steal) from a friend for purposes of entering this contest."

It's $250 in merchandise credit. So cost to them is probably less than your $50.
That would mean I would have to buy Tracksmith gear first, then run a PR, then I get my store credit.
No thanks..but I wouldn't buy Tracksmith gear to being with because it's not my style.
Potential PR Bonus winners may be required to show proof of identity and other information about their PR. Tracksmith’s race research team reserves the right to investigate race results and their determination as to whether a PR Bonus was earned is final and legally binding.
They need some more explanation. I have a soft 10k road PR i could go after. But according to the above they may determine that it's not in the "spirit" of their offer. They could google my name and quickly see that I ran faster on an xc course 8 years ago, or that I split faster during a 1/2M. Does it still count? It doesn't say. I don't wanna spend $60 for shorts for a chance for them to maybe accept it.
I like what tracksmith is trying to do, target competitive runners, and the pr idea is cool. But even if I took this offer and their stuff ended up being my favorite gear I wouldn't continue to buy it. Just too expensive.

No, you don't. You get the credit after you PR.
