Don't worry Ohio!
Ray Flynn representing him now.
$50k from Hoka minimum just like Merber after he ran 3:34 at Furman Invite last year.

Colby had a lackluster college career. His breakout race came after the NCAA Champs his senior year so timing was bad.
Took some scalps at 2015 Stumptown, but timing bad and not fast. Similar to OK State guy who just took a bunch of scalps, but didn't even make NCAA's.
Point is mixed results. But the bigger issue is that NJNY is such a big club with so many people who have had a couple great races in their careers, but usually 3:40 marks.
I believe "groups" work, but not that big.
This from an article after his 3:36 at Stumptown last year. "Alexander was injured the entire 5 years at UO. He did have short periods of health outdoors but only ran 1 indoor season and parts of 4 outdoor seasons".
That could be why he isn't sponsored.
But this looks like it may be his first ever stretch of consistent training. From last year May to this year has been anything but "mixed"results. Check it out. Not one race over 3:38 (except 3:40 at 2015 sit and kick outdoor nats and over 3:40 at 2016 indoor nats sit and kick and all his mile races under 4). I see 4x 1500's between 3:36 and 3:38 and 3 sub 4 min miles, finals of 2016 USA's indoor and 2015 outdoor and a top 3 USA time right now.
No excuse for no sponsorship. He'll be a late bloomer.
Well maybe his injury past is haunting shoe companies now but in this world it's usually "what have you done for me lately" and he is bringing it lately.
If shoe companies went by what a runner has done in the past AND what he is doing right now we wouldn't have many sponsored athletes!
There is so little available after some of the complete studly 1-2 very top guys in each event. Do people realize how lucky a $25k contract is and these "groups" help with some of the "other costs"!
Who besides the mentioned athletes has a Q ?? please??? Name themFollow along if you eliminate athletes entered in other events and the two Qs with injury (thus questionable for their Meet success) BB is the athlete with the Q time and feeds into the comment that someone could win the Trials 1500 and not go to Rio.

No, he's not. Q period includes 2015. See the "road to rio" rankings linked above in the thread.

How do they pick these standards?
Of all the milers that will be running the trials 1500 this tear - zero hit the time in 2016.
Of all the milers who will run the 1500 at the Trials only 4 hit it last year. Two of those 4 hit it barely. By tenths. Any others that hit it (not many) are doing other events at the trials i.e. Jäger, True, Leslie and Heath.
It's not about a weak year for the 1500. Relatively, this standard seems to be tougher than most other events. It's equivalent to a 3:53.5 mile.
bump for clarity

That is almost funny that you think manzano and andrews will do the 8.

Yeah a bit tongue in cheek following up on rojos comment to Equivalents post about Jager, True, Heath and Leslie having a Q but running other events .
I guess I needed a wink ;)
Just so we have it here later in the thread.
Guys with Q:
Manzano
True
Blank
Leslie
Merber
Heath
Jager
Centro

Of those guys, only Manzano, Blankenship, Merber and Centro will run the 1500 at the Trials. Centro will be ready to go for top 3 but won't be 100%. Merber just ran 3:41 at Princeton so he's back from his injury but won't be 100%. Leo is not the Leo of yesteryear. The team is up for grabs if someone can hit the Olympic standard in the final.
The guys who have worked out and raced against Colby all these years when he was injured and always coming back knew it was just a matter of time til he got healthy for awhile. We all knew when that happened, look out.
Obviously with the jump, better check the 'B' sample.

............Princeton - you guys should have hired me to time it. As an alum, I would have done the finishlynx for free and trust me I'd have moved that cursor over by .06 to make sure he got it.
I thought cheating was frowned upon on this website. Frowned upon are....
1. Drug, EPO users
2. Mike Rossi
3. The run across America dude
4. Cursor manipulators??
Many of these guys are good enough to run 3:35 or better. They could use some more good pacers to get them to 1200m in 2:52-3, like Willis did for them recently. Maybe there aren't enough very good but second tier Kenyans in this country to do it. Usually the standard chasing goes much better in Europe but maybe it was too expensive or too close to Trials for many of these 3:36-38 guys to go in May or June.
I photographed the meet and wrote up a brief blogpost and have a photo gallery of the races that evening.

62 athletes worldwide have the 1500 standard, compared to well over 100 in the 5000:

The standard is to make sure they have the right size field. The fact that 60+ kenyans and ethopians have the standard doesn't matter since only 6 go. The faster 1500m standard suggests a slightly wider talent spread in that event (well at the bottom of world class)
As of today the trial entrants with an OG Q are
Matthew Centrowitz Nike OP / Nike Oregon Project 3:30.40 qualified
Kyle Merber Hoka One One 3:34.54 qualified
Benjamin Blankenship Nike BTC 3:35.48 qualified
Robby Andrews adidas 3:35.52 qualified
Leonel Manzano Hoka One One 3:36.16 qualified
The rest of the best
Jeff See ASICS FURMAN ELITE / ASICS Furman Elite 3:36.70 qualified
Frezer Legesse Under Armour 3:36.93 qualified
Ford Palmer Hoka One One /NewJerseyNewYork TC 3:36.98 qualified
Isaac Presson 3:37.06 qualified
Jordan McNamara Nike OTC / NIKE OTCE 3:37.20 qualified
John Gregorek ASICS / New Jersey New York Track Club 3:37.36 qualified
Daniel Winn Boston Athletic Association 3:37.56 qualified
Ahmed Bile Georgetown 3:37.73 qualified
Izaic Yorks 3:37.74 qualified
Thomas Awad Penn 3:37.75 qualified
Have they announced the field size for the finals ( 8,10,12?) a target overall field size?
To make 3 rounds meaningful the need to eliminate at least two from every race
12 man final means minimum 16 in semis and 20 in the rounds
how deep into the current entrees will they go
William Leer 3:38.23 not qualified
Duncan Phillips 3:38.28 not qualified
Dorian Ulrey Brooks / BROOKS Beasts TC 3:38.34 not qualified
Chad Noelle 3:38.35 not qualified
Edward Crawford 3:38.49 not qualified
Jack Bolas New Jersey New York Track Club 3:38.52 not qualified
Andrew Wheating Nike OTC / NIKE OTCE 3:38.60 not qualified
Matthew Maton Oregon 3:38.62 not qualified
Lex Williams Saucony 3:38.77 not qualified
Craig Engels Ole Miss 3:38.82 not qualified
This gets them to 26 and a 3:39.00 cut off
Robby Creese Penn St. 3:39.02 not qualified
Cristian Soratos adidas 3:39.59 not qualified
Josh Thompson Oklahoma St. 3:39.61 not qualified
Sam Penzenstadler 3:39.64 not qualified
Weston Strum 3:39.89 not qualified
This gets them to 31 and a logical cut off of sub 3:40.00
We might see some others enter if they think their time might get them in- I have not checked to see if anyone else is sub 3:39 or sub 3:40
fisked
So funny....
