Looking to Rio, we'll have 2-3 Kenyans working the pace, Mo and Jeilan the "lead waiters" (kickers). And, no one will shake Rupp, who is making progress towards reviving his kick.
I'd love to see it come to be like this: A fast race with upwards of six guys in contention on the last lap!
Jeilan said the Ethiopians will work as a team in Rio. Huh? Not sure how they do that if the Kenyans are busting balls up front.
Jeilan is maybe the one guy for whom I think sit and kick is actually a viable, smart play against Farah. Most guys think they can kick, Jeilan actually can. Farah is still better, but I think it's respectably close between those two.
Jeilan beat him in 2011, and in 2013 it was compelling. Farah held it all the way, but only gained at best a meter and a half on Jeilan. Now Jeilan seems back as good as ever, outkicking 5k specialists in a 5k and setting some modest PRs. Farah on the other hand hasn't had any particularly good finishes, or a fast mile. Enough to have at least a question mark or two around his name.
Then added to that you have Kamworor and the Kenyans, who might just be prepared to hammer this time around. So we've got a potential kicker threat lurking, and the potential of seeing a truly fast Olympic final. Ingredients for an exciting race.
