I'm 40 and never learned how to type. How long will it take me and what is a good program?

Why are you asking here anyways, the idiots here hunt and peck. You want a good program? I only know the best program, you'll be learning from a master, Icarus Proudbottom:
it might be harder if you are older but if you learn to do it the correct way first time around it make take a bit longer up front but save you hours if not days in time later
Typing web.com is pretty good.
I can't remember which website I used, but they are all pretty similar. It took me about a month. I learned in sixth grade.

How did you manage to write that post?
Anyway, it doesn't take long at all to get up to a decent speed of touch typing (60-80 wpm). I was typing that speed in a language with a completely different character set (Asian) within a couple months of learning its keyboard layout. I would imagine it should be even quicker for your native language, I learned to touch type in English during middle school with Mavis Beacon but don't recall how long it took.
I toook a couple of tiping classes in grade skoool and can now tipe 175 words a minute. All my friends r very jealous of me.
I learned to type late in life using a $10.00 Mavis Beacon program. I used the program for about two months, for an hour or two after work, three times per week to get to 30 wpm of true touch-typing. Obviously, you could compress that time frame. After that, you can stop using the program, and you'll get faster just by typing whatever you usually type. I type about 70 wpm now, and I'm really glad I finally learned how to do it. Go for it.
Go "back to the future" to 1969 in high school and learn to type 100wpm with NO errors...
I just scored in the 98.9th percentile at 100 WPM (Two silly zoned-out mistakes)
bump
32 WPM
