Another thing to consider is that many of these athletes sign these contracts because a shoe company will have bonus for making the Worlds/Olympic team and their base salary skyrockets to 6 figures. So athletes agree to these salaries as a way to stay in the sport thinking they'll cash in once they make the team which is what every elite says is their primary goal anyways.
THIS IS EXACTLY SO.
All those OTC middle distance guys, all of Brooks Beasts, vast majority of NJNY athletes, and even half of Bowerman is in this $20-40k range.
Back in my active days I signed an athlete to a Nike contract for $130,000 per year with bonuses. Two weeks later, I negotiated two deals with a Japanese car company for $200,000,000 yen ($1.7 million back then) and 600K with a subsidiary of Sony so don't tell me other companies don't see the value. At the time, my worry was had opened myself up to a problem them wanting to have their name on the singlet in opposition to Nike. Never materialized.(Granted they were an Olympic champion and not everyone can claim that.)In 1993, I had an agreement with Trojan Condoms for $2.4 mil to be spread around to approx. 15 athletes. TAC killed that deal with Ollan saying that he "wouldn't allow some damned rubber company in our sport." I did take a little heat for trying to get them. Anne Roberts at the NYRRC called me and said I was a crazy to even approach them for sponsorship. Maybe but the controversy would have been worth it.International companies should be looking at our sport because athletes will be shown wearing their name and providing marketing and name recognition in countries where they have no marketing budget but could enjoy revenue dollars from there. You don't think that ebay could profit more by exposure with over 200 IAAF countries as opposed to Amazon.com which is much larger? Or PayPal?I'm not here to do agents job for them but simply running to the shoe companies guarantee these $30,000 contracts with reductions.

You are not presenting a very good argument. Why would any company pay more than the shoe companies to have t/f athletes endorse their brand? In terms of the general public, nobody watches track and field. To me, it's a wonder to shoe companies even get any return at all on the small amount they do invest in pro t/f athletes.
The only thing that matters in these deals is BARGAINING POWER. Can an athlete say 'I want 100k because I can definitely get that somewhere other than a shoe company'? No way. Athletes are only worth what anybody is willing to pay them. And right now that is not very much.
Wrong.
Any news on what Shaq Walker decided?
Why would Coach Greg Metcalf push Yorks so hard to Jerry/Nike?
What problem does he have with Brooks? Seems like Metcalf has a personal agenda.
I think if track and field athletes salaries were publicized like in major sports, it would actually help with the popularity of the sport and drive athletes to train harder, run faster. We'd then see better track meets because the fields are stronger. In turn, better performances lead to higher contracts. Higher contracts would actually make the public care, because if an athlete is being paid a legit amount, it means they are putting on a legit show. It would motivate the HS/junior athlete, even though they'll say "it's not about the money", in real pro sports it is. So lets make T&F a real sport.
They say to make money you need to spend money. Right now T&F athletes are not getting paid, some living off scraps, just to place 17th in a 10k final. Imagine if that athlete was paid from the get go, had all resources. Then you'd have a strong athlete. Do that across the board and the quality of that 10k final will rise.
You can't lie that seeing that faux list of potential college T&F athlete salaries got everyone going, even WEJO/ROJO. Here we are arguing about what so-and-so deserves, based on current and potential performances. Money matters so pay these guys to perform at the best level and in turn we'll pump money into track field to see these meets, to buy their shoes/apparel, etc.

This is true.
Pat Casey got $0k from Nike after his 5th year at Oklahoma, the year he was 2nd at USA's and ran 3:52.
Deductions are huge but other things need to be considered.
Is Housing, coaching, travel and medical, physical therapy, massage, chiro, part of the contract. Are you given acces to a gym, health club and track..
All of the above will cost you $20-$25k a year.
In other words a $20k contract without all of the above equals ZERO.
Speaking of Riley Masters, has he raced this season?

These aren't salaries. They're endorsement contracts. A salary in a league pays you for how you can help your team win games. An endorsement contract pays you for what you can do for your brand. If this were a league, Dathan Ritzenhein would be making as much as a Kenyan of equal ability, when we all know that's not the case.
Thank you very much. Just released today. Yorks with Brooks.

And Yorks is signing with Brooks, not Nike.
College athletes are so scared of getting a real job and training. They join these groups make no money, run slow despite having everything on a silver platter and then complain about how they dont make any money...you didnt earn your $$$.Those that make under $40k didnt have a legit shot to be on a team in the first placeand as soon as they are done running they have NO OPTIONS except lifelong employment in a shoe store.
Stay in school, Get a degree, Get a job, Get a nice car and still be a kickass runner!

I would bet that is relatively accurate.
OP is right about the haves and the have-nots. I have on pretty knowledge that Mac Fleet, Jordan Mcnamara, Ciarian O'Lianard, Tyler Mulder, Charles Jock, and Trevor Dunbar COMBINED don't add up to Wheating.
And combined how many Olympic or WC teams have Mac Fleet, Jordan Mcnamara, Ciarian O'Lianard, Tyler Mulder, Charles Jock, and Trevor Dunbar made? I am willing to bet less than Wheating

They're equal at three.

What makes you think that Metcalf DID try to push Yorks to Jerry/Nike? Yorks signed with the Brooks Beasts just about as fast as he could have.
What makes you think that Metcalf has any kind of problem with Brooks? The Brooks athletes frequently train on the University of Washington's purple track, perhaps at no charge. UW athletes have long signed with Brooks after graduation, even before there was a Beasts, perhaps because the Brooks headquarters have been in the Seattle area for more than a decade. In fact, if you look at the Brooks sponsored runner listings it's heavily populated with graduates of UW and other Pacific Northwest colleges.
