Is the catch that eight years have passed (as mentioned in the article) and the owners of the blood will not be named or punished? Meaning it is essentially useless now.
The question is, who are the 'authorities'?
I think that might decide what is learned and what is not learned.
But it is fabulous news nonetheless that these 200 bags of tainted cheat-blood will be released.
I'm not interested in the cyclists - we all know the story there - I'm more interested in the tennis players, the athletes, the footballers, etc.
211 blood bags
23 cyclists 12 athletes 1 unknown
I haven't caught myself up 100%, but I believe we are past the statue of limitations for any sanctions to be handed out.
Considerations also have to be taken for how bags will be matched to individuals. Some will be labeled, but 211 bags is more than enough blood for 46 people; there are many that will go unidentified. Using DNA for example, to match any unlabeled bags could go through the same jurisdiction fight USADA faced when trying to nab Armstrong, at the intersection of the statute of limitations, and Federal, WADA, and NADO jurisdiction.

Exactly. That is why the court waited so long, so the statute of limitations would expire. I'm sure the judge's mistresses have some nice, new expensive jewelry purchased with some of the bribe money.
Yeah, there won't be any sanctions, but hopefully something can be done to get closer to the identities of Fuentes' clients.
It's assumed that they are all either cyclists or Spanish sportsmen, however one of those implicated, Jesus Manzano, has stated that Fuentes took care of athletes from all over the world.
(Athletes fly in from all over the world to see another well-known doctor, but I'll not go there ...)
For those who think it's ok for athletes to take PED's, with it simply evening out the playing field and nothing more, then digest this story from Jesus Manzano's time as a Kelme rider:
"Manzano paid 3,000 euros before the start of the 2003 Tour de France to the [Kelme] team for the medical expenses as an investment to what he and the team expected would be repaid with the proceeds of a stage win or other wins. He believed that the rest of the riders on the team paid the same amount of money. On the morning of the seventh stage of the Tour, the team doctor gave him a product that he had never used before. Fifty millilitres were injected into one of his veins. On the first climb of the day, Col de Portes, Manzano and Richard Virenque attacked the peloton and got away in an attempt to bridge up to an earlier breakaway. As Virenque's teammate was ahead, Virenque did not do any of the work to get to the group. After three kilometres of the climb, Manzano began to become dizzy. Virenque attacked and got away. Manzano collapsed after a further 500 metres and was airlifted to the hospital in Belley. The Tour de France doctor who was the first medically trained person on the scene to tend to Manzano mistakingly diagnosed a heatstroke. According to Manzano, the team manager Joan Mas asked him to refuse all analysis at the hospital. Manzano would later say that the drug that was administered on the morning of the seventh stage of the Tour de France was Oxyglobin."
"Manzano had a near fatal dehydration which he believed was due to the morning injection. After the Tour he began to feel depressed and no longer had a desire to race. His directeur sportif told him he had to ride the Volta a Portugal and, according to Manzano, threatened him with losing his job on the team. Several days later in Valencia Manzano received 125ml of blood from an assistant of the team doctor. Manzano said that there was no control conducted to ensure that the unlabelled blood bag was his blood and afterwards felt sick. He tried to take the train but his condition was so bad that he had to leave the train before it left the station."
Let us not forget that hermens is connected to fuentes ,albeit loosely

There aren't any track and field athletes implicated in Puerto.
That's one thing that Fuentes has always said, ever since this whole thing came to light many years ago.
Besides cycling, tennis and football were the other sports mentioned.
There are T&F athletes involved...the most likely suspect is someone called Dominguez plus a few others...

12 athletes identified, athletes being participants in athletics. 36 total.

You are incorrect trollism. That is not shocking to me.
Please note in the article that Dr. Fuentes says that he had a "medical relationship with WINNERS OF THE LONDON MARATHON." Paula Radcliffe is also happy that the names on the bags may be revealed.

Sounds like there is little interest from any governing body to pay for the DNA testing.
Still early though. I hope something comes of this
"The judges decided that the contents of the bags of blood ... must be delivered to Spanish Cycling Federation, the World Anti-Doping Agency, the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the Italian Olympic Committee.""It has been widely reported that the 211 blood bags are linked to 35 individuals in total: 23 cyclists and 12 athletes from other sports.""Fuentes has also in the past claimed to have worked with football, tennis, athletics and boxing."

I wonder if it will take this long to hear the results on the Aden situation from Sabadell? Perhaps Qatar shelled out enough cash to make it go away...

Come on there was no cheating in longer distance events between 1985 and 2009.
