Adidas wearers and other shoe people, please help me out!
I've worn a few pairs of Adios, training from intervals to long runs in them and racing on the roads from 5k to half marathon (although I usually go to a true flat for 5k).
I've been really happy with the Adidos, but wondering as a 165-pound guy running 2:50+ for a marathon if I can or should take them the whole distance. My other go-to lightweight trainer is the New Balance 1400, which I similarly take for both fast and long training runs and race 10k-half in. But I've never been sure about racing a marathon in the 1400 or Adios, and in five marathons the NB 890 (previously the 833/825) has been my marathon racing shoe (as well as a staple for recovery and long training runs).
People experienced with these shoes, would the Adios Boston be a good option for a lightweight trainer, maybe easier on the calves over 26.2 miles that the Adios? Is it as different from the Adios (as much more shoe) as the 890 vs the 1400? Boston vs Adios seems closer than NB 890 vs 1400, from what I've read. Another thought is to just try the 1400 in a marathon, which seems a bit more forgiving than the Adios.
Of course, I could just buy a pair of Boston and see how they do in 22-milers, but I am very happy with the 1400/890/Adios rotation already. Just wondering if there's anything to gain for me from a proper racing shoe in the marathon, but hoping to avoid a backfire! (I read an interview with an elite marathoner where he said nobody every wished they had lighter shoes 40k into a marathon, which is a point.)
