Wow. That little flick proves exactly one thing: Rob Kapostasy is either an absolute idiot, or really dishonest.
If it took him a year's worth of deep thought and study to figure out that Yes, Rob cheated, and then to conclude that his two pals were 'decent guys' who had nothing to do with it, then he's a *gigantic* dim-wit.
Those of us who were paying a little attention, and applying a little basic logic at a higher-than-kindergarten level figured it out pretty solidly in about ten minutes: RY is an *absolute* fraud, and both his pals were completely in on the scam.
If he's *not* an total dim-wit, then he's just pretending, because he thought it'd make for a better 'story,' and might 'sell' more easily.
That makes him a fraud, kind of like his subject Rob.
Either way, it doesn't speak too well for him.
He *could* probably have made a really good flick here, if he'd bothered to tell the *full* story, and pursued it where it led.
That, of course, would've meant that he recognized *immediately* Rob was pure-bred fraud from the get-go, that he likely was lying about lots of other stuff too, that that cast tremendous doubt on his claims about his childhood and anything else (which RK apparently took at face-value --hook, line, and sinker) --and that his two accomplices were clearly lying too.
Then he could've attempted a serious exploration of what shapes a life-long liar and fraud --which would actually be valuable and worthwhile.
Then, of course, he would've told the *other* half of this story, about the guys who worked so hard to expose the fraud, and what *their* motivations might be. (Arguably a better story than Rob's, anyway.)
And *then*, of course, he might've been moved to include the story of Pete K, who really *was* what Rob pretended to be --and offered an awesome counterpoint to the tale of the fraud he was telling.
But that would've been a much more serious work, by a much more serious guy --instead of one looking for the sound-bites that 'played' best with the vapid audience he's courting.
Oh well. It *looked* kinda pretty anyway.
