Why aren't these ultra runners running with him. RY could still cheating since they just drive ahead and wait. What's stopping him from jumping on the tailgate for a few tenth of a mile while these idiots are waiting for him to pass?

It's not what we need. This whole thing is soooo simple: We don't need Laz there right now. We don't need Let'sRunners there. We don't need ultra runners there. We need him to upload his TomTom data from the start of the run. That's ALL we need.
Wrong. They will never upload/provide his TomTom data, that's been made clear. So we do need somebody on the ground to make sure he doesn't cheat the rest of the way. Everything now hinges on whether he gets the record or not. Honest running should delay him enough so that he doesn't beat the record. If he gets it, you can forget about anything that has been exposed here. He will be anointed and be considered a God.
I really wouldn't trust what this Laz says. It sounds like he has no clue himself.

Getting to NYC is a pain, there is no easy or direct route. They will have to bake that into their calculations. The fact that they planned to finish in Times Square to begin with is proof that they are truly noobs.
Through all the hoopla RY stirred up, this might be the funniest part of the whole thing. I'd definitely pay for footage of them rolling that RV at 3mph through Manhattan and into Times Square.
Well said.
Robert and his crew forgot that you can fact check stuff now within minutes. If he would done his run in 1981, he would have been in the newspaper with a new Guinness book record.

Without being too scientific, it appears RY needs to cover about 58-60 miles per day (24-hr period) for about 14 more days to break the current record. He's on the bleeding edge right now. He's been in the 56-60 mile range each 24 hr period for the past couple of days. Big question: can he keep that up for two more weeks? Pace appears to have slowed quite abit last night (he's does most of his running/walking overnight). Covered about 32 miles since resuming near Martinsville, IL last night around 6:30-6:45pm.
This is why I'm glad someone is on the ground keeping him honest. His penance for having cheated in the first half is to kill himself the rest of the way and barely get there in one piece, not in record time of course. I for one will be happy knowing he paid a high price and got a taste of how hard people have worked to get across honestly. Let him suffer.

But the method they are using really isn't stopping him from cheating. Like the other poster said, why aren't they running with him or have eyes on him all the time?

They are waiting for him at random intervals, hidden. If he jumped a tailgate, he risks getting caught outright because they do not know where the surveillance is waiting. That would be game over right there.
So this RY character goes from comfortably chilling in an air conditioned RV slowly across the country to extreme fatigue, pain and exhaustion due to being forced to actually run long distances now that he's being supervised.
I picture this very similarly to the George Costanza house in the Hamptons scene.

I don't think they really hide themselves. Rob could just jump off the tailgate when they approach a crossing
Running with him could be rather difficult, Laz doesn't look very fit.
They should bike with him.
Anyway, it's great that Laz is there and is providing updates.
Interesting that even though this is "All for the kids" I don't think I've read Rob or his team mention "The Kids" in any of his posts or blogs during the challenge and haven't reminded people how they can donate.
Anybody know which "kids" we are talking about, I thought the whole point of these sort of "awareness" challenges is you stick a link at the end of each interesting post or blog to persuade everyone to donate to your charity, it appears the whole charity aspect of the challenge appears to have slipped their mind. Anyone would think it wasn't top of their priority list?

To be honest, unless they get in touch with the NYPD there is no way the RV is going all the way to the finish line. The cops out by the cornfields may give him a break for being on dangerous road but there is zero chance he would be allowed on a highway near NYC. The RV absolutely cannot cruise into Manhattan without police detail.
Unfortunately I will be on business travel on his planned arrival day, but I can try to arrange a live feed with a bored friend.

I think it's good enough. They are at least walking on eggshells. If he really tries he can sneak in a bit of cheating here and there, but the surveillance has definitely slowed him down enough. There will be no more 6min miles like in the first half. If he registers any fast running from now on it's basically a full admission of guilt.

I don't know that I'd call an average of about 50 miles a day for a week--340 miles or so--"a joke." It may not beat the record, but it's roughly on par with what the winner of the Bunion Derby averaged for the cross country trip in 1927. Two marathons a day for a week. Not bad. Don't get so eager to prosecute that you lose all grounding in reality.
I wouldn't call it a joke. I'd call it a powerwalk.
Like Salazar was, you mean?
Everything said about NY is obviously true, but they may not have to wait until NYC to start getting into more trouble with law enforcement.
For example, their planned route takes them through the heart of Indianapolis tomorrow. Per the current estimate on the ultralist, they'd arrive between noon and 3p. Indianapolis isn't NYC, but it also isn't Emporia (much less "Emporium", which someone keeps calling it) and it won't go well for them if they stick to it. Even if they ultraninja through the city after dark.
And as they move further east, it is a problem which will recur in other cities.
After secretly continuing to follow them, Asher delivers again!!! He got you Rob!https://i.ytimg.com/vi/qi7xFwT_KyU/hqdefault.jpg

But they have Lazerus guiding them now and changing their route. Surely, with all his self-proclaimed experience, will be able to navigate through this minir hurdle.

You should get out of the basement a little more and see the world.
You're pretty clueless.
