"He said that the RV could have stopped for gas while he continued running and the RV needed to catch up (at 6 miles per hour). He also said on busy roads, he sometimes runs on the opposite side of the road, facing traffic. “I could have been on the other side of the road. I don’t know. I could give you 50 different reasons,†Young said."
"In a later email (after they thought up a new story), Brooks provided a more detailed explanation of what happened that night. “At some point Rob dropped off the pace and Michael [a member of the crew], who was driving, failed to notice. So Rob ended up isolated. He continued on to a town and called Michael from a stranger’s phone to tell him to stop.â€
"Brooks also wrote that the crew had been in contact with the car wash to review a lengthier portion of the footage. He said they found Young running by nine minutes after the RV"
So when first asked about it, Rob and his crew totally forgot about the time when they got separated by more than a half mile and Rob had to flag down a stranger to call the RV.
Then they remembered and clarified it in a later email. A one-time failure in their system of watching Rob's flashlight and him waving it when he's accosted by knife-wielding madmen and the RV immediately stopping so he could get in and they could drive off only to return to the same spot to resume running.
So they get a half mile and nine minutes (two miles with coffee) apart but don't notice.
Makes sense. I believe him.
