''Goal for Oslo mile: finally take down Sir John Walker's NZ record of 3.49.08 I'm sure he wants it finally gone too.''
From his twitter.
He recently took a third in a race in 3:35ish, which is a long way off from 3:49

You mean 3:34.29 first real race rust buster? Where he didn't attempt to go with leader. 2.35 seconds off converted, and maybe less as Willis is more of a strength than speed guy at this point in his career.
Bump
Yes

If it is a quick race, I am pretty sure he could get it. The only exception might be if Kiprop goes 3:45 and nobody else chases him - although I think Willis could probably hang on for 3:47-3:48 if he chased Kiprop through 1200 in a crazy fast pace.
Also, he should also have Mottram's 3:48.98 Oceana mile record in his sights. Not that it is a terribly different goal to aim for, but it would be a little frustrating to get the NZ record but manage to miss out on the Oceana record.
Yes, he will.
good luck for him. he may have to follow the pacers to do it if Kiprop, as in most of his mile races, is targeting 3:50-51 with a fast last lap. I would love to see a very fast circuit mile. There hasn't been a sub 3:47 since Webb in 2007 and none for several years even before that.
Looks like he wants sub 3:49.

What does that have to do with anything?
Yes, he Willis.
Hahaha, I'm the absolute best.
I hope so
It means he's still got wheels dawg. People on this board just like to call old white guys "strength runners" for no good reason.
I want to know why he doesn't go after Snell's record. I know he is more of a distance runner but surely a sub 3.30 man could run a 1.43?
I mean he ran 3:51 at Milrose vs. Centrowitz. 3:49 outdoors in the summer with Kiprop in front of him seems to be worth the two second difference IMO.
Calling 3:49 low for him. Kiprop runs 3:46.

Doesn't Snell still hold the NZ 1,000 meter record? 2:16 WR in 1964.
He's run sub 3:30 two seasons in a row now right? He's obviously confident in his fitness to post that goal on twitter of sub 3:50. So yeah, I think he can do it.

Gotta love when your national record is so old it's still in hand time not on a synthetic track!!
I believe Snell's record was on a grass track (with lime markings and posts to mark it). Might have been one of his mile records though.
