Mary Steenburgen (very nice)
Ted Danson (Mary's husband but reserved)
Robert Redford

1. Delilah from the song hey there Delilah. Probably goes further in conversation with the average American than your two.
2. I have met many professional runners but Kenenisa Bekele is a big one. As is Mo Farah. Love them or hate them they have ruled the track for the last decade plus combined.
I'm going to name more than 2
Craig Virgin
Mike Conley Jr. and Sr.
Rajon Rondo
James Tayler
I met Josh Mcdougal while I was warming up for a meet at Liberty one time. He wished me good luck. Because I'm a letsrun loser, I've never met another famous person.
Jordan Hasay
Casimir Loxsom
Ben Blankenship
Shaquille O'Neill
Blankenship smelled bad.

There's only one famous person in that list.
Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson from Megadeth. Cool dudes.
During my 60 + years on this planet I have had the honor of meeting many famous people. But because of this day I would like to share with you a story.
Back in 2005, NYC was one of the cities bidding for the 2012 Olympic Games.
A group of 200 supporters and dignitaries flew to Singapore for the vote - I was lucky enough to be part of this group.
The day before the vote there was an opening ceremony with entertainment and some "light refreshments". A few of us decided to go back to the hotel to have dinner. This included Bob & Louise Hersh and IAAF VP Amadeo Francis.
As we were eating I noticed that Mohammed Ali was sitting a few tables away with another man that appeared to be his helper.
I told the group at the table that I have never asked for an autograph but I had to - this was Ali!
I went to his table and introduced myself. Ali grabbed my hand and tried to communicate but unfortunately I couldn't understand him. His helper came over and listened carefully to him, then told me to sit down - that Ali wanted to do something for me. Ali took out a pen and a small piece of paper. For the next 15 minutes he drew a picture of a boxing ring with two fighters and a crowd around them The drawing also included a butterfly and a bee!. He signed it to me. Then we took a few photos together - one in a boxing position with my fist up against his jaw.
I went back to my friends at our table and they asked me what I was doing there all that time? I placed the drawing on the table. Their eyes nearly popped out of their heads.
The drawing and a photo is framed in double UV protected plexiglass sitting on my desk.
Rest in peach Champ.
I've exchanged words with
Larry Bird
Dave Johnson (decarhlete. He can't be too famous if I have to explain what he was)
Matt Tegenkamp
The president of a third world country when he and I were college classmates
John Sculley and various other CEOs but Sculley was highest profile
Various pro golfers. Tom Watson was the most accomplished
In my years of air travel I've bumped into George Foreman, Dustin Hoffman, Jesse Jackson, John Cusack, the founder of Hustler magazine (I forget his name).
In my running career, I've raced all the recent big names - Ritz, Webb, Hall, Kennedy, Khannouchi, Radcliffe, etc.. but most famous probably in business with Carlos Slim, Jr., Kevin Plank, Phil Knight, Warren Buffet... does D-Wade count? Spent some time with Gareth Bale and Harry Kane.
Benicio del Toro- at a bar in San Juan, PR. He is much taller in person than on screen.
Artie Lange- comedian, formerly on the Howard Stern radio show. During Super Bowl weekend in Vegas. He was bitching to me because the doormen were giving him a hard time about entering a club wearing sneakers. He was hilarious.
Bill Cosby
Shaquille O'Neal
Drew Hunter
Bono
Julius Erving
Bob Beamon

Two guys it would have been fun to watch against each other in their given sport. Julius was an exceptional jumper. Beamon was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the early 1970 (?) but decided not to play for them.
Tom Byron and Ginger Lynn
Many in the running realm, but in the non-running world:
Sidney Poitier
Alan Alda
Melanie Griffith in around 1992. She was filming born yesterday in DC. I was on lunch and watching them set up cameras and a lady was near me staying in the shade. I did not recognize her but thought she was striking and one if the most beautiful women if ever met. Started talking to her pretty much to say hello and asked her what are they doing and age told me they were making a movie. I think she was struck by the fact I did not realize she was in it. So she talked a little bit just about DC and the summer heat and staying cool Then told me she had to go and walked out if the shade and back on to set. I had to go back to work but for a few years wondered if I had hung around whether I had any chance. Too old now to think I did and too old to stop believing.
Also met Danny Partridge when he came on to my sister. but that is another story and not sure what the statute if limitations is in Chicago. So better left unsaid.
Met a lot of ballplayers and Clinton and Obama and others. Melanie Griffith takes the cake.
Larry Flynt, I believe.
