Well Torrence recently ran 13:16 and has one of the top 1500 times for Americans this year also.
I'd say he had about a 25-30% chance of making the US team. 100% for Peru though, that's tough to beat.
Agreed, though a victory for him will be to make the Finals which he likely won't. His choice to run in a different vest is highly unlikely to affect the American runners that will be there. As a previous poster noted this is a positive indication toward the quality of American running right now.
I'm pretty sure he just did.

How can Torrence compete for Peru when he has competed internationally for the US in the last three years?
Easy! The three year limit is in By-law 2 to Rule 41 of the Olympic Charter. The next sentence adds this proviso to the time limit:
"This period may be reduced or even cancelled, with the agreement of the NOCs and IF concerned, by the IOC Executive Board, which takes into account the circumstances of each case."
He must have filed an appeal, which was then granted.
This shit is getting ridiculous
Do we whether he will be a member of the Peruvian men's or women's team?

People need to tone it down about with the nationalistic stuff.
I'd argue the Olympics is largely a nationalistic event to begin with though. It's about representing and digging deep to bring one back for the good ol' MF'in US of A.
Do we whether you speak English or no ?
Make move to Peru!

Maybe you missed the part about the athletes at the Olympics representing their NATIONS?
Centro to RIO!!! wrote:
Centro--if his stress reaction keeps him out of the US trials--could run for Guyana. He would probably get on their team without having to run anything.
Can't Wheating run for South Africa?
Smart move. Torrence has never come close to making an American team. Probably his last chance to run in the Olympics.

So now David Torrence is doing the same thing as Alexi Pappas and competing for Peru

Greec is mainly Turkish/Semitic bloods these days.
I would be better with this if people actually changed their citizenship, but that's not what happens. They keep their original citizenship, become dual citizens, and exploit athletic opportunities not available to others.
Somehow I doubt that Torrence will now move to Peru or Pappas to Greece, etc.
This just makes a joke out of citizenship and supposedly national competitions.

He has been on national teams for relays, but I assume you mean as an individual. Perhaps you missed the 2012 trials ? He was third with 80 meters to go. His weakness has been his finishing kick in the past, but he has been working on it with very good results lately. He would have a shot at the US team this year, but I don't blame him for taking the sure thing.
why not, we've allowed Africans pretending to be Americans to run for the USA for decades now.

He finished sixth, more than a second off the third and last spot on the Olympic team. His last 100 has never been good enough for top 3 and I don't think it's really improved, which is why he switched to the 5k for a while. Blankenship has the same problem. With Centro and Andrews likely taking the top two spots in a tactical final, that would leave Torrence fighting for the third spot with Blankenship, Manzano, Wheating and others. Not good odds.
Whetting? You must mean Andrews.
Well, you said he's never come close. Being one second off from making the team is, IMO, close. As for not good odds on a third spot on the team fighting with Wheating, Manzano, Blankenship and others he would have had an equal shot against those guys based on what he has shown this year compared to them. BUT, I have learned to never count out Manzano and Wheating in an Olympic year - but as of today Torrence has had a far better season. Alas, its a moot point now, he won't be competing at the trials.
To me, sixth is not close when finishing in the top 3 is all that counts. Time doesn't count for anything in the US Olympic Trials. I actually don't think Manzano or Wheating will make the team. Some dark horse for third, maybe Blankenship if he gets lucky.
