Why do people feel the need to do 400 and 1000 repeats in the Summer of Malmo. I think when people are doing them it is breaking the rules because in the Summer of Malmo guidelines it says to do repeats of 150-300 and 1200-2000m. Is it okay to do 400 and 1000 repeats during the summer of malmo
First off, use question marks next time.
Any distance of repeat can be useful and appropriate at any time of the year as long as rest and pace is adjusted accordingly. Assuming you're a high schooler in the US, 400m-1000m repeats can be very useful at this time of the year, as long as it doesn't cause an interruption to building up volume to get you ready for XC season.
Ideas:
Run some 1000's at tempo pace, or whatever feels relatively easy, for, say, 5-8k worth of work off ~2:00 rest. Piece of cake, and just makes it easier to get some solid high aerobic volume in.
Running 6-10 400's at 3k-5k pace off of long-ish rest (equal distance jog, perhaps) can do a good job of getting your legs ready for more intensive work at that pace during the season without being very taxing. There are a lot of ways to make those interval lengths fit into your Summer schedule.
