Has anyone on here had experience with gastrocnemius recession surgery? I've been battling issues with extremely tight calves, which also cause my arches to feet really tight, for a couple years now. I've tried everything - sports massage, ART, Graston, dry needling, stretching, heat, ice... you name it and I've tried it to stretch my calves. I can run, but the first couple miles are very painful due to my tight calves and I usually have to stop at least a few times to try to stretch them out. My doctor suggested gastrocnemius recession surgery to lengthen my calves, which should relieve the tightness I feel in my calves and feet. He said this will also help with issues I've had in the past with metatarsalgia and morton's neuromas. Has anyone had thissurgery? I'm a 40 yr old female and former D1 track/cross country runner, so I'm not concerned about trying to set any PRs any more. I just want to be able to enjoy running and run pain free, as much as possible. If anyone has experience with this surgery and recovery please share!
