Those who still call themselves "feminists" in the year 2016... why?

Because sometimes the more subtle, ingrained forms of sexism are more pervasive and insidious than the macro-inequities of days past. For example, smart and confident women are often looked upon negatively in the workplace due to societal expectations of woman's roles whereas men excel due to the qualities. Women want to be valued for their contributions, both those actualized and not yet realized, but are inevitably prevented from achieving their true potential due to idiotic bullshit. This becomes even more frustrating and unbearable when you have vested 100% of your being into forging the way for young starlings like yourself who question why women should care about staking claim of their innate human value.

The whines of modern day feminists often become self-fulfilling prophecies. To give an example, there was a woman at my work place last year who let it be known at work that she was a "feminist," and she also for whatever reason would not take direction from men (something I find to be very common among modern day feminists). Given her boss was a man, this turned out to be very problematic. Yes, she would take initiative and do things "her way," but her job was not about such things, and since she was new and didn't have a full understanding of how things need to operate and how they should not, her "initiative" created a lot of problems. Our boss tried to talk to her about this stuff, but her "screw men" attitude caused her to not listen to him and continue to screw things up. She ended up being fired over something that alone was very trivial, but it was really just an excuse to get rid of a problem-employee. I'm sure in her mind she thinks she was discriminated against for being a "strong woman" or something. We have several other women who do basically the same thing she did who do NOT describe themselves as feminists, and these women have no problems, nor are they treated any differently than the men who do similar jobs. Funny how that works.

there are stupid people everywhere. some of them are feminists. what you are doing is generalization, for which people would call you racist or xenophobe in other cases. and rightfully so

Because in today's world of plenty we don't really have anything to complain about except trivial things. people just need a cause to get behind something they identify with. It's all superficial, they just need an enemy, the need to something to fight against. They want to have friends (teamates) that share the same enemy. It helps them get out of bed in the morning. It masks their depression. They need someone to blame, they want to take the moral high ground (it's an illusion) so they can insert themselves above their enemies in the false class system we live in.

Same goes for lgbt, NRA, or any other group or social cause. These people who identify as a "blank-blank" are f-ed up.

Today, people like to destroy what they are envious of. Feminists today like to destroy two things: men and the romantic prospects of women who are more attractive than them. Look at 99% of radical feminists and ask yourself whether any of them are seriously in any danger of bring regarded as sex objects. Try not to laugh yourself to death.

Because men still dominate positions of power in buisness and government. Apparently women still aren't being paid as much as men when holding equal jobs.

Just in my own field: women have been getting science PhDs and expressing desire to have a career in academia at the same rate at men for a little while now. In fact, long enough to correct some of the uneven number of male and female professors who get tenure. But it hasn't happened.

There have been plenty of studies showing that the CV with a male name on top is more likely to get consideration for positions with authority, even if women are doing the selection.

This guy gets it. The defensive reactions above are clear evidence that he struck a nerve.

But, while we are still on this subject, there is still a need to defend females, but only for the right reasons. There are still a ton of old, balding, insecure losers out there who yearn for the days when women were treated as property, because their ego cannot take rejection. Unfortunately, a lot of these types of guys can be found in leadership roles in both the private and public sector. And, unfortunately, there are still a ton of young, insecure losers who think that merely being nice to a female, or being a white knight, automatically entitles them to sex. Many of these types of guys can be found right here on the LR message boards.
