I know IQ threads never really go over well here, but I thought I'd give this a go. I dated some in my teens and early 20s, then quite a bit in my mid 20s, and then a ton in my late 20s, and I simply cannot find a girl I feel I'm compatible with. There are obviously many factors that go into compatibility, but the biggest one I can easily put my finger on is intelligence. While IQ is an imperfect measurement of cognitive ability, it is the single best metric for "intelligence" we have, so I will use it. I won't say any specific number because it varies a little depending on the test, and it's not really important to be specific anyway, but it's out at more than 3 standard deviations. The best way I can explain the significance of that is that 30 points separates the average from the mildly retarded, which is also roughly the same difference between me and the average college graduate. Supposedly romantic partners are within 10 points of each other. Based on the research available, that means only roughly 0.5% of women have an IQ even within 10 points of me. My experience tells me that I simply cannot be happy and fulfilled in a relationship in which I am alone intellectually, nor am I compatible in other ways with someone who is significantly less intelligent than me. We really are "qualitatively different." I've only ever met (or gotten to know) one woman in my entire life who I could tell was equal to me, and things ended up not working out with her due to other factors that go into compatibility. The end of that relationship was fairly recent and was the catalyst for this thread.
Some people may say, "Get a PhD," or "Join Mensa," but I've already spent time in academia, and even there I found the vast majority of people to be significantly below me. Most were fine people; they just weren't on my level, and that in combination with the attitude of "I'm a genius! Look how great I am!" which is so pervasive in academia made for a pretty lackluster romantic environment. I've looked into Mensa, but there aren't very many members in my area, and they're mostly middle aged dudes. I'm kind of at a loss.
To the handful of other people on here who can relate, do you have any advice? I'm pretty physically attractive, so getting dates is not difficult. I simply cannot find someone I'm intellectually compatible with. Help?
