Bannister used to run what he called a mixed grill. It was 2x220, 2x440, 1x800, 2x440, 2x220. Do any of you have any thoughts on the workout? What event(s) is it best for? Should it be modified in some way? Have you tried it? Anything?

I have no idea about why they call it a "grill," but it seems like that workout could work a couple different ways, depending on what pace the 2's and 4's are supposed to be run at. I know that Bannister's workouts weren't very similar to modern workouts, except maybe when he did pace work. If I looked at this workout, I would think that I would run the 2's at mile pace, 4's at mile or 3k pace, the 8 at 5k pace, and then the same in reverse. Bannister, on the other hand, might have run them all at very high intensity, with long rests. I'm not sure
Roger Bannister ran it so it might be good for the mile.
Remember that life was much tougher then. They had to be in shape just to live!
