Yes it's that time of year again when I post this thread and talk about summer xc training. I apologize to those for starting last year's thread and not providing many updates.
2015 Thread:

Here are the spark notes for anyone interested in hearing how my running has been going:
2015 xc season: After upping my mileage to significantly I consistently average between 70-75 miles a week from the end of June to October. However, I still had a very subpar xc season, running 26:34 in my first 8k of the year which ended up being my pr. I have a few theories for this which are running in significant 90 degree heat all summer, overdoing workouts, and not getting enough sleep (we switched xc practice to 7am).
2016 Indoor and Outdoor Track: Raced indoors three times and set 2 prs. Ran a 4:17 mile with a horrible last 200m, and a 3k time of 8:54 (flat 200m track converts it to 8:48) where I went out too fast and ran 4:36ish@1600 and 7flat@2400 and then proceeded to die.
Raced 5 times during outdoors. Was seeded into the wrong heat for my opener some how and ran a 4:01 with little competition. The next two meets went terrible. 30mph winds at one meet and I felt terrible physically at the other one where I hit the bell at 2:56 and died. Had a small 1500 pr at 4:00.08 where I hit the 1200 in 3:09-3:10 and my body locked up. Followed that up with a 3:57.6 in my last meet of the season with splits of 63-65-62-47.
Had we not slowed down as much from 200-800, I felt 3:55 or so was in the cards. Felt like if I had the opportunity to race again I could've run between 3:53-3:55, but I wasn't selected to run at my conference meet and having final exams really derailed my plans to race at a last chance d2/d3 meet. Over the course of the season I dealt with very tight hamstrings which I have been working on stretching out. This hindered me kicking at the end of some of my races.
So that brings us up to summer 2016. I am going into my senior year of college but junior year of eligibility for running. Due to finances and the fact that I can graduate this upcoming year, my parents have told me that I have to run faster and make the xc conference line up this fall or graduate next spring. Making my conference line up (top 9) will probably require me to consistently run around 25:30 on average difficulty xc courses like pre-nats.
I have summer training from my coach but it's relatively vague and flexible. I'm curious to hear people's suggestions for what to do to run the best I can this upcoming season. If I don't run much fast this fall, this will be my last xc season.
I'll start running on Thursday again after my 2 week break. I'd love to get this thread going again!
