Did Ritz and Hall ever go sub 4??? Hall almost broke 4 in high school. Did he ever complete it?
1500 equivalent?

nope
Hall ran 3:42.70 in HS which is just short of the sub-4 equivalent. Never surpassed this even in college, despite winning NCAAs in 13:22.
Maybe now that he's bulked up he'll do some HIIT and finally get the job done.
Nope. Neither did Bekele.
The best distance runner in history (Bekele), a former AR holder at 5000 (Ritz), and a guy who was basically a 4 flat guy in high school (Hall), never bothered with this barrier when at their respective peaks. I think this speaks to this irrelevance of the 4 minute mile, a relic of male nostalgia.
It is still a decent accomplishment for a high schooler, but a bit overhyped due to the distance bias among track coaches and meet organizers.

Hi Sheila.
Actually Bekele ran sub-4 at some point while running a 7:25 300.

Fixed

Actually, sub 4 minute miler Mo Farah is the best distance runner of all time, Sheila.

Actually Bekele ran 4:01-4:02 through 1600m in that race. Did you check before you posted? -

I'll eat crow! Amatuer move on my part. His final 1600M (or extrapolated to 1609m) was PLENTY under:
59.09
59.05
60.07
56.04

Bekele WR 2000m indoors- sub 4 at 1 mile!
http://youtu.be/DCqPx8OPoQQI wish I was as cool as Sheila Reid. As an American, I am happy to lend credibility to her arguments against mile nostalgia though. She was right, but sometimes that argument is a touch tougher to make as a Canadian.
Bekele ran sub 4 during the last mile of the 2008 olympic 5k.

Ritz ran 3:42-high for 1500 I believe, so not quite. Good bad. They were both capable.
Umm nope, how many world records does Mo Farah have?
And this too wrote:

Michael Johnson ran sub 9 for a 100 meter segment in Atlanta in '96, but he isn't even a sub 10 performer.
Nothing like comparing apples to walnuts.

Sure he tried to break 4 in his prime (shortly after running 13:16 at nationals), he just didn't. Even after running his 2:04 marathon he tried again.
well, kenny b ran 4:49.99 for the 2000m indoors, which is 3:52 pace.so i know he technically didn't run sub 4 in a one mile race, butso, unless he went out in 4:00 and ran his last 392 meters @ sub 50-second 400m pace, he's run a sub 4. i bet he's run sub 4's in practice
