when Oregon Cow College outscores you by 20 points in a track meet, you know you made some bad decisions
They are one of those Title 9 just women schools for track. Read a long article by their coaches. They said we are all just here to have fun. Really squirrel young looking guy coaches. Making all this up as they go. Just here to have fun. Meanwhile they got Sarah Feeny, who won dream mile as a HS senior. No progress at all, believe she has gone backwards. Those Utah coaches make you want to take a shower just lookin at them.
Nicole Griffiths, winner of the Jesuit Twilight Relays women's elite mile (the women's side of the race where Kid Slag broke the big 4), is headed to Utah State. How is the coaching there?

Ya know I really don't know much about Utah State coaching. However, I know two guys there and they seem to be really lit up by the training and drive atmosphere. Some of the athletes are turning out some decent times. Thought I heard a coaches name there that rang a bell as a guy who was an assistant to a top Olympian now coaching at a Div 1. Think they are getting serious there...just rumor I have heard.

USU is a well coached group, Greg Ginsel is a class act and surrounds the program with good people. She will do well there.
Regarding OP- University of Utah is also well coached but have a couple "high risk" athletes at the moment. Feeny is talented but it comes with baggage and a price. They are a distance only program and won't look good in a scored track meet. Too many powerhouse distance runners in the Pac 12 to expect consistent points year in and year out. They will compete well as a cross group.... Personally, I'd want a balanced track team competing..
I agree with what Squirelzy said about the U of U -- Kyle Kepler seems intent on creating a team that can be nationally competitive in XC (they qualified for the NCAAs for the first time this year) at the expense of having a full service track team that could score more points at PAC12s. Assuming the narrow focus doesn't somehow also harm their ability to recruit talented distance athletes (and their incoming class looks pretty solid this year), I think the trade-off is probably worth it to them. They really haven't done anything notable as a team in either sport until this year.
By the way, the Utah website indicates that Nicole Griffiths is part of Utah's incoming class, not USU's.
Utah is one of the world's foremost research universities and part of the famous PAcademic-Nine (the other eight are UW, USC, Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, ASU, UA, UU) schools, but Utah is not good at sports, at least not yet.
Maybe not too good in track but their football and basketball programs are pretty solid.
