Names are not out yet but should be in a few days. Anyone have a better article?

I doubt that all the names will be released and I doubt that any "big names" will appear among those released.

Also, they cover a range of sports, not just t and f, so hardly even news.
I'm sure whomever gets the bronze 8 years later will be able to get a huge increase in their sponsorship contracts. Oh yeah. They have a normal job now.
Good thing the IOC didn't do anything about it until still more evidence of widespread corruption appeared.
Take your pick although doubt will be many medalists:
Imagine if Bekele or Bot came up and we could put an end to the charade
this will go quiet for a year and then some obscure former soviet union weightlifter will be quietly stripped of his medal.
I wish they kept these things quiet until actual names and actual bans can be announced.
Seems they retested for athletes expected to compete in 2016. So you look for athletes who competed in 2008 and are expected in 2016.
That longevity would indicate higher performing athletes / sports that favor longevity - throws etc.

This announcement is designed to preserve the IOC's brand equity, not actually operate sports with some integrity.
Doping is okay at the IOC.

well we'll see. things seem to be changing.
and to be fair, they do seem to want to ban these people before Rio.

Did MoBot compete in 2008? In a few years improved testing will allow the drug testers to retest 2012 to much greater accuracy, and to find other (previously unknown) drugs used. MoBot will spend his entire life wondering when they will catch him.

Why? The majority of the 2008 Olympic athletes are out of the business. Don't rush the announcement. Get it right.

Knocked out in the 5,000m heats
Al Sal had him doing a few weights and now he is winning everything
Why is it that they announce the #'s busted but not the names? Is it to give time to seek bribes from the athletes and their federations, as they did under Diack? We're still waiting for the names of 30 or so busted just before World's last year (we got a handful) and also waiting for the hundreds of names busted for Meldonium, including the other five or six Ethiopians initially busted. Of course, we will wait forever and never see anything. What a farce the sport is.

Nothing happens until an American broadcast takes the Russian corruption to a wider audience.
Things aren't changing. The money is too good.

This is when you know the sport you love is mad sick! Rotten to the bone!
In 2013, an article in the Telegraph stated:
"Hundreds of urine samples have tested positive for heavy-duty anabolic steroids in recent months after they were analysed by scientists in laboratories in Cologne and Moscow using a new testing method, according to a report broadcast on German television on Monday night."
"Officials from the two laboratories told the TV programme Sport Inside that all of the samples would have produced negative results in 2012 due to the short detection window available at the time but a new testing procedure, known as the ‘long-term metabolites method’, meant steroids could now be detected more than six months after they were taken."
To the best of my knowledge, the names of the athletes that failed the new test for steroids were never revealed. Does anyone know why?
Also In 2013, an article in the sydney morning herald stated:
"The IOC has said the new test will be used at the Winter Olympics in Sochi in February. It will also be used in the planned retesting of samples from the 2008 Beijing Olympics before the eight-year statute of limitations expires in 2016."
Interestingly, Grigory Rodchenkov (the former head of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory) was involved in developing this new doping test for steroids.
It is extremely likely that the vast majority of the new failed doping tests are for anabolic steroids.
Athletes in the UK, USA and Jamaica primarily use synthetic testosterone, so it is unlikely that any top athletes from these countries would have failed the new test.
These 31 athletes are most likely from eastern europe. Anabolic steroids are still widely used by top athletes in these countries.
