Proved my point Abdi has been done for 3 years. He would of added nothing.
Just because Greg was a good runner doesn't mean he is good at recruiting athletes.
Why no Ritz? Please don't tell me he will be running on the track because that ship has sailed. A February Trials should have made this the best field ever. Why no Desi who is a car ride away? I can name 10 runners that are not running track that would have been better than the 5th place finisher today.
If you don't like the job Meyer is doing for this race you should contact the Fifth Third Bank River Run race director and offer your services. If you can get those "10 runners that are not running track that would have been better than the 5th place finisher today" I'm sure the race would love to have you helping get those runners to Grand Rapids.
This has got to be a challenging race to recruit for. If you're one of the more competitive marathon racers, you either did the Trials or maybe Boston as your big spring event (depends on the year). Maybe you're waiting for Grandma's Marathon, coming up in less than a month. If you did the Trials and didn't make it, a lot of those runners probably took some time off hardcore training, typical big event let down. Maybe they're ready to start high level racing again like you say. If you're a 5k/10k guy a 25k is outside what you're looking to focus on. And the prize money, while good up top ($7K), drops off quickly. 4th place is $1000.
