On the upside and an unrelated note, Matthew Maton ran 3:42.68 tonight. Good mark for him after some debatably underwhelming college races in his first year.
He ran 7:57 3k, behind a Lewis and Clark athlete at 7:56. Third was about eight seconds behind Cheserek.
Maton won in 3:42.68, getting close to another sub 4 equivalent>>rounding into shape. Against a faster field, maybe he'll run 3:40 or under this month.

Lewis and Clark STATE in Idaho not Lewis and Clark in Portland.

Not bad for a 20 year old.
They were a bit slow pacing wise and Maton finished strong. He move to the front between 400 and 300 to go(passing on the corner), ran around 42.5-.6 for final 300.

Yeah, their coach sucks and not the best school in the NAIA. They always peak too early. This kid is talented and nothing more.

Did this kid live in a cabin all winter? This race is literally the 3k equivalent of Once a Runner.
Lewis Clark State College is an NAIA school in Lewiston, Idaho.
Atkin has had solid results for a couple of years now. He won the "B" 1500 at the Oregon Twilight Meet in 2014 in 3:46.12.
He's the only NAIA runner to break 14:00 for 5K this year. He ran 13:57.28 at Whitworth on April 14 and 13:57.54 at Payton Jordan.
LCSC cross country is consistently ranked in the top 10 in the NAIA. Mike Collins has done a great job with the program.
Why can't you still? I have heard coach Collins has an open door policy, is pretty no nonsense, and from what I can tell, has consistently produced good teams on a yearly basis. Sounds like a good place to develop your running, and who knows, maybe you can be the next to "bring down a king". State school....can't be too expensive even if you had to cover all of it. Opportunity to run at a national level and in big meets like Stanford and Oregon.

No, he's actually a crap coach. I know someone who went there- speed out the ass early on. Coach doesn't know how to develop kids to peak for Nationals. They always run these lights-out times early on, and then they underperform at Nationals. No excuses for consistently underperforming when it matters.
truth be told. wrote:

Did you know that the LCSC women's XC team has been on the podium at nationals 2 out of the last 3 year; both times placing higher than their end of regular season ranking?
Did you know that the LCSC men's XC team has placed higher than their end of regular season ranking 4 out of the last 5 years?
Did you know that the LCSC home XC course, where these lights-out times are run early on (well mid-October) has consistently been one of the fastest courses in the country and almost every runner from every school that races there produces personal bests?
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
