Henry Rono is probably the GOAT for distance runners in NCAA, no?!your question is the same as the Mo Farah GOAT debate. wins versus times/recordswhen Cheserek is a senior and has won endless amounts of races and helped his team to numerous victories, his coaches may unleash him on the record hunt and get him in more pro races. but it makes more sense to win team victories as a coach, no?i would think they'd do it this year because of the olympics and his hopes for becoming a US citizen...he still has a bunch of time i guess and had a little injury recently. i bet he can run under 13:10 and under 27:30 this year if he was in the hunt for times - makes more sense to try and qualify though. chris derrick ran 27:31 as a senior, and cheserek is much more talented than him. derrick was 4th at trialshe will run some fast times. just wait. he can run faster than lawi lalang's 13:08 5,000m. he can break the indoor mile record and 3k recordi hope it happens. if it doesn't, he'll run some insane times within a year or so of graduating and they'll be no question of GOAT collegei'm not even a ches fan, but let's be honest with ourselves here. he is unmatched. he split 3:52 in indoors with little rest after winning another race. he can run 3:51, sub 13:00, and sub 27:30

If Ches stays healthy, he will likely finish out his NCAA career as the most decorated athlete. However, can you call him the GOAT if he has never run a time that even puts him on the top-10. I am not talking about breaking an NCAA record, he has not made any top-10 list. In fact he does not hold any NACC XC course records and no Oregon school track records. There are NCAA athletes from the 1970s who have run faster than Ches in his primary events. -Or, does running fast not matter?
