Where's his wedding ring?
Where's his wedding ring?
Only one person has mentioned this, but I find it somewhat sad that he retires from professional running to obsess over an even more pointless, narcissistic pursuit. At least he was earning a living through running. Sara is no spring chicken and can't float the family forever. I hope he's looking beyond just lifting and coaching his wife for a real profession to dedicate himself to - ideally one that isn't so self centered.
I understand what you are saying and generally agree with it. The article and others were saying he put on 40 lbs of pure muscle and I was pointing out that was definitely not true, and greatly exaggerated how much muscle he put on. Our bodies weren't mean to hold a ton of muscle so it is difficult to build. But, I do think it would be easier for him than others to put on muscle (initially) since he was basically below noob level.
The sad part was the before I could only bench 100 lbs. what?? 100 lbs is nothing
Since I don't think it's been said yet ... What the f#@ck is up with the dumb trucker hats he's wearing in these photos? After retiring did he decide to go back to college and join a frat?
I mean in the article it says he runs like 18 miles a week still.
It also mentions that he just jumped into one of Sara's workouts. He ran like 3 miles at 5:40 pace

A lot of people don't wear their rings when they lift. Scratches them.

probably because Asics still pays him and without a shirt he wanted to show the logo somehow.
people are such twats...you guys all hating on him and saying he's lying about his weight because what, 165 is way too heavy for a 5'10" guy?
he was probably about 135-140 lbs as late as last christmas before giving up running. I saw him at the trials in february and he was definitely heavier than normal, so he probably had already started lifting.
Everybody is single when they are lifting

Just to be clear, I was/am a Hall fan and am fine with (even support) his new lifting and jacked-ness.
I just think his hats are dumb. Get a regular hat with an asics logo. Any of these would be fine:

No, but he eats a sh-t ton of Muscle Milk pancakes.
The article says plenty of fish so yes he eats meat.
Someone attributed his gains to protein intake but muscles grow by lifting weights not food, otherwise bodybuilders would spend all their time in the kitchen not the gym.
He is on the juice, pro bodybuilders can expect to add 0.5lbs of muscle a month, even considering new gains he's put it on unnaturally fast.

You've got to be kidding me. I know runners know jack shit about lifting, but 30 to 35 pounds of muscle? That's nearly impossible to put on in a lifetime of lifting unless on heavy anabolic steroids (I'm talking tren not test).
Can confirm. Older brother went from 6'0" 145lbs as a college 10k guy to ~205lbs in the ten years since retiring from running. Realistically went from 3-5% body fat to 8-9% so that's in that 30-35 pound of muscle range. Put on carefully over a decade by a CSCS. Good luck with your Gainz, Mr. Hall.

I doubt he would ever be able to compete at the top level again after gaining that kind of muscle mass, at least in the marathon. Middle distances may be another story.
Miss Post likely, but given the background in one of those selfies, she suggests Ryan give some attention to cleaning that garage.

How long until Ryan Hall starts to be anti-running and propping up some HIT program? Perhaps even Cross Fit?
I believe he'd be the perfect spokesman for Androgel. I'm sure his agent has considered this.

He had low T. No long running that reduces it now and no reason he can't get T therapy now.
Um...ever heard of MICRODOSING? TUEs?
No need to wait until retirement to get "T therapy."
Impressive.
He looks much, much better than ever before. Good for Sara.
I doubt the volume. Reads like the typical Mens Health BS article. 5x10 deadlift? No way. Unless it's 4 warm up sets.
Also chinups shouldn't be done to failure but one short of.
6x50g of protein per day = 300g. Considering he weights about 150 now that is pretty much where he should be (2x bodyweight).
The FDA recommendations for protein are clinically low and pushed by the grain industry, after all.

Fish is a vegetable.
