I have known several pro athletes and honestly once you drop the student commitments and/or a part-time job, it is a long empty day if all you have to do with yourself is jog, drop a mid-distance workout (literally 10-15 minutes, hard but not time-consuming) and/or get a massage/acupuncture or whatever other headcase things one engages in to fill the day. Go watch Michael Phelps's "day in the life" videos lately. He actually legitimately trains 4+ hours a day (way more than Symmonds) and admits other than that his daily life is basically ice baths and video games (like Rupp).

I actually couldn't respect someone who didn't have other pursuits (which Symmonds does) because I think that literally a dog with a walnut for a brain would get bored with that life.

Obviously, someone with the ego to devote life to putting a better number beside their own name is going to go on the only website covering their pursuits in depth. As for Symmonds, I'm a fan but the guy probably has a Google alert for his own name.

On that LRC podcast interview with Chris Derrick he pretty much admitted that while athletes tweet about "the grind" in reality they are taking naps, watching Netflix, and tweeting all day. MY ASS they don't read LetsRun.

Since he hasn't visited in a decade, we could all be intelligent philosophers and professionals exchanging ideas for all he knows. Seems like a contradiction there.

They are out wishing they could be living the life and living in a lame echo chamber of their social media with trite lingo, promo, shoutouts etc. Occasionally some of the collegiates do really wh0re around like a bunch of rascals. But basically they are all out doing the same conventional cookie cutter bs and living by conventional dictates and trying to look cool while doing this. By definition that is not cool.
