I'm slowly coming back from a stress fracture in my fibula and I have no idea how to start building back up into actual mileage. My orthopedist gave me a three week run/walk program and I can start running a full mile with no walk breaks this week. After this week, I can start gradually building back up into doing longer runs, but I have no idea on how to do it. I've heard of the 10% per week rule, but at that rate, it'll take forever to build back up into 35-40 miles a week again. I really want to get my fitness back over this summer and log lots of miles to have a great xc season (possibly do a combo of Jack Daniels/Summer of Malmo?), but I also don't want to do too much too quickly and get injured again. Does anyone have any experience with building mileage after a stress fracture/can recommend some books/resources that will give me some ideas? Thanks so much!
