Which longshots in the track and field world come through in 2016?

We had this huge debate this morning on Rupp's double. Everyone thought the double if done properly had to diminish his odds of a me dal in each individual event so double medals would be pretty nuts.
Galen 33-1 to win 10000m gold. Bet you won't get those odds in the US. Worth a bet.

Alexi Pappas wins a gold for Greece in Rio!
Would any bookie even bother setting odds on a 5000-1 athlete in a running event? Perhaps whoever Bhutan or Samoa decide to enter in the Olympic marathon.
But track and field events are not sports where someone of dramatically lesser ability can win by outsmarting their opponents, which is essentially what Leicester City have done. And if we do see a long-shot victory, I think I can predict how that might be achieved.

So true. It's a major drawback to track and field as a spectator sport. The favorites when most of the time. And yes when someone "breaks through" they often are doping.
