Word out of training camp is that Makhloufi is running workouts we've never seen before, burning through training partners because it takes 2 or 3 bodies to keep him on pace through workouts (like El G). Watch out Kiprop!!

Less than 100 days out from Olympics. His doping cycle is in full effect at the moment. Over the next few months is when he and all other Olympians should be heavily tested.
I have been told the same thing. Workout passed to me:
1000/800/600/400 with 7/5/4 mts recovery:
2:15/1:48/1:20/51
Supposedly will be going to Doha from his current camp, then a quick camp in France, then Eugene (Pre).
This is very fast and very impressive. However, Makhloufi's always been more of a "speed" guy than a "strength" guy, and while this workout certainly points to some considerable endurance, this is also quite a lot of rest. As a result, it doesn't indicate anything too far out of the usual to my eyes.
In other words, I would expect an in-shape Makhloufi to be hitting times like this in a workout of this nature. What would indicate more (and what would intrigue me more) is what he could do off of a workout with less recovery time.

Yes, especially East Africans. Once again though, location and political correctness will allow the Kenyans, Ethiopians, Cubans and a few other anointed groups to dope without care until just before the Games.
What is Makhloufi's milage look like?

Very good, but the recovery times are pretty substantial.
I'd say Coe's 1981 session of 5 x 800m on the road with 90 secs recovery all in 1:52, except the 4th one in 1:46.9, as a superior session.

This is the first I've heard of a 1:46 mid workout for Coe
Also not all workouts have to have short rests to be effective.
There's no source for that workout. If it is accurate, then it includes a 1k that would fall somewhere between 38th and 102nd best all-time. To then run a 1:48, 1:20, and 51 with 7/5/4 minutes recovery has to be considered remarkable.

I haven't seen any info on his twitter or instagram to suggest such a workout, and he loves to show off this stuff
I've only been assured that whatever workouts he is completing are, as you say, remarkable. would love to see proof of this supposed workout tho
i've never heard that 1:46 bit either.i read he did those 800's on a slightly downhill road, and his dad would drive him back to the top after each one

Seb Coe didn't run great workouts. He had phenomenal natural speed. If you watch his video on YouTube, he brags about being able to run 6 x 800m slightly uphill in about 2:00.
Remember, Coe couldn't crack 8:00/14:00 for 3000/5000m. He was more of a sprinter than distance runner. He had great weight room workouts, however.
Good lord we used to do that in college. I was something like 2:39, 2:02, 1:27, 60.

I'm not seeing him on the preliminary entry lists for Doha.

Just what I'd been told their plans are. Certainly, things can change. Further, longer rests are not uncommon with some of the european coaches. Aden also uses the same type of structure.

What? Coe started off as a 3000m runner as a junior, winning the English Schools Champs at 16.
He ran 7:54 indoors over 3000m with the last km around 2:30.
He also beat Coghlan & McLeod over 4 miles on the road in '78 running 17:54, beating Brendan Foster's (ex 2 mile WR holder and European 5000m champion) course record by 11 secs. There was nothing wrong with his endurance, certainly far better than most elite 800m runners ever.
His 6 x 800m were the bread and butter of his interval training throughout the year. Often they were run on the Rivelin Valley Road, back to back. There was no going back to the top and starting again!
Most were run in significantly under 2 mins and the recovery was generally 90secs. The course was undulating, so some would have been slightly downhill and some slightly uphill.
In an interview with L'Equipe at the end of 81, he stated that one session of 5 that year (with 90 secs recovery) were all in 1:52, with the 4th one in 1:46.9.
I went past him the other day. He was doing some crazy ~51sec 15x400m workouts. Expect great things.
