And 50.25 in the discus.
So Damian is better than Ashton in DT and 110H...
Close in 100m (10.28 to 10.21), LJ (8.04 to 8.23), JT (64.67 to 66.64), SP (14.7x to 15.40) and HJ (2.09 to 2.11)
Not there yet in 1500, PV and 400...
Let's see if the next 3 months get interesting
Pole vault is a massive point-getter in the decathlon. The scoring in the decathlon is skewed to sprinter/jumpers vs sprinter/throwers or thrower/runners (400m, 1500).
This explains why decathletes are getting leaner and we will see fewer and fewer giants like (Christian Schenk - 6'7" 240lbs or Jurgen Hingsen- 6'6 242lb).
Both Damian and Ashton look "normal" in street-clothes. They are essentially the same athlete, the slight nod goes to Ashton being more "technical". If Ashton has an "off" competition; Damian is right there.
Strategy for the decathlon is a fast 100m (10.6 or better), a solid long jump (7.75 or better), a good high jump (2m or better), a decent 100mH (13.3X), and a competitive pole vault (5m or better) and you will almost always be in contention for the leader-board even if you have mediocre or sub-par throws.
Assuming you meant 110m hurdles and not 100, I would say that a 13.3x is not just decent but incredible for a decathlete, especially compared to the other scores you mentioned
Hi Annoyingguy555:
I did mean 110mH; sorry about that. I also meant 13.4X-13.5X for the hurdles. I was also writing my grocery list when I was typing.
My apologizes.

10.15 for Warner in Gotzis. So he's now also better than Eaton at 100m.
10.15 in the 100m is crazy!!!
He has hit Oly Standard in the 100m.
With a +1.1 wind. So it's not as if he had a +2.0.
He unfortunately fouled on his first long jump. Took a very very safe second jump and fouled on his third. He will therefore not score well this weekend, but this is not the meet where he should peak anyway... Can't wait to see how he does in his other events. Rio could get interesting if Warner's pole vault improved.

I still think that you are wrong. You can count the 13.4x to 13.5x decathletes (in the history of the event) on one hand.

The world combined best (held by Warner) is 13.44. This was achieved with a +2.0 wind.
