He stepped it up then and then with 100 to go switched gears again and cruised to the win. 2:02 final 800, 58.8 final lap for Lagat, looked like he had more left in the tank too.
Zienasellassie runs a big 43-second PB of 27:52 to finish as top collegian. If Cheserek isn't there, he's the favorite in the NCAA 10k.

Hasay was never up with the leaders, but ran mostly even splits. She got the Olympic standard, which is good, but she's got some work to do between now and July to make the team given how well Marielle Hall and Kellyn Taylor ran today (plus you've got Huddle, Conley, Infeld, etc.).
Let's also remember that Futsum is an American citizen. Good for him to pick up the Olympic standard.

She qualified for the Olympics easily with 17 seconds to spare. Ran smart. Didn't take off with other on the Last lap, no need, she wasn't going to PR and she had the Olympic standard barring a disaster. Smart race.
Previous world record for track 10k men over age 40 was Martti Vainio of Finland set in 1991 at 28:30.88.
Bernard Lagat just crushed it with a 27:49.35 debut for 10k on the track.
Not too bad for his first 10k on the track at age 41.

I bet nobody here saw this coming for Hasay. sub 32 after a couple years of pretty poor performances.
if you recall, she ran 32:40s in december for a track 10k in Sacramento. looks like she's made a lot of progress.
in 2015 she just ran 15:45 for 5k. and now 31:58 for 10k. not bad

This race was awesome, going in it appeared the NCAA athletes would put on a show. At the end of the day, the older chicks showed them who is in charge! Olivia Baker ran an NCAA leading time, with Alexa Efraimson battling to be the fastest athlete at an NCAA school! Williams looks like she will be a contender this year for sure!

Renee Metivier Baillie needs to be more mentally strong. She's been dropping out of a lot of races.
