Happy May, masters. good week for me of recovery from racing last Sunday, with only faster stuff 2 X 12:00 (2:00 recovery) at marathon pace Friday.
My thought for the day is to thank those of you who were great runners in our days of youth for keeping after it --- it's cool to be able to compete alongside you, which is rare to impossible in other sports.
The Washington Post recently ran a feature story on Adrian Dantley (DeMatha Catholic/Notre Dame/Detroit Pistons star) and how noteworthy it is that he's reffing kids' basketball games and has stayed in shape. Conversely, last Sunday I was racing down Rockville Pike alongside 2-time Marine Corps Marathon champ and 1992 Olympic Trials marathon 8th placer Jim Hage -- he wasn't there as an official; he was winning his age group.
And that kind of thing happens all the time. I hope the Chris Solinsky's of the world who are done with world-class competition will take all the time needed to get healthy and mentally/emotionally refreshed, but then consider coming back to participate in this great lifetime sport.
have a great week,
Dave
