There are pay issues based on gender, but I cannot stand the never ending statements that imply that women, across the board are paid less than men. It simply isn't the case. I have seen some articles supporting this claim by comparing completely different jobs like IT managers vs. human resource managers and then implying pay differences are related to gender.
Any union worker (teachers, nurses, government workers etc. etc.) aren't paid less for the exact same job. I've know many private school teachers too. They are not paid less than their male counterparts. Women working minimum wage jobs are not paid less than men in the same jobs. Commission based employees are not uniformly paid less for being a woman. In fact, in some areas like residential real estate, medical/drug sales, being a woman can actually be a positive. I have friends that are CPAs, attorneys, etc. I've never seen or heard anything about a pay gap at their offices.
I am all for identifying legitimate cases of gender based pay discrepancies, but we need to end this false view that implies that every, or even most, women out there are working for 20% less than men doing the same thing. I'm not seeing it.
