Now that Big Cheese has officially retired we can bestow the title on him. Step aside Nenow.
I was worried he'd screw it up by somehow qualifying for Rio but luckily that didn't happen.

Hi.
As far as distance athletes go yes.
26:59 and 12:56 (I think)?
I am not sure anyone the US sends to Rio in the 5k and 10k will match that.

I would say his career had a couple of stellar moments. The sub 27 was special yes but beyond that and a couple of other races, not so much to speak about as a pro. He will be remembered for one race.
BTW Nenow had long career with a number great races and yes he held the US 10k track and world road 10k records.

As well as 3:54.52 Mile speed...
great high school runner as well
and ran the last 3k of a 5k against Lagat in 7:37....
which is f*cking insane
the funny thing is, he will be remembered for the 26:59 and that wasn't even a distance he fancied himself being good at. He probably was a 10k runner based on his lack of sprint speed that he needed to win international 5k's. wonder how fast he could have gone
having raced him in high school and seeing the amazing hard efforts he did all alone on the track, i am very partial, but he's the runner i wish would have had a longer, more fruitful career. more than any other athlete i've rooted for actually
also, fun fact, i beat him in a 5k once (he was a freshman)
Khalid Khannouchi disagrees.
Unlike Solinsky, he still holds a US record, and also held the World Record. And also unlike Solinsky, he actually had international relevance (London 2002).
For those who might complain that he's not "American enough", he moved here when he was 21, and had been living here for 10 years before setting the US record.

American enough = living (and training if applicable) in US full time starting on or before starting high school, or 14th birthday, whichever comes first.

Both of you are incorrect. Being American enough is simply having citizenship. If you're allowed to represent the US during international T&F or road-racing competitions, then you're an American T&F athlete. Setting an arbitrary "number of years" or "age" in order to qualify is nonsensical and is overruled by the ONLY governing body that assesses this.
For example, Lagat, Meb, Khannouchi, and Chelanga all qualify, while (presently) Edward Cheserek doesn't.

INCORRECT!
Khalid doesn't count because he never really tried until he was well past his prime.
