Marathons are for skinny people. Do they realize it's 26.2 miles? Same goes for 5k's and 10k's. These are distance events and overweight folks don't do well with distance. They should be doing 100 meter races on the track or Shotput, Hammer or Jav. That's more suited to their build. I just don't get it.
Because they like the idea of telling stories of the time they "ran" a marathon in 4:40 or so at 10:45min/mile pace. Whatever, who cares, run and focus on your own sh*t.
Why do you knock people for trying to live a healthy lifestyle? If they need to run a marathon to motivate themselves, what's the problem?
You actually have everything to gain by this. If fat people got healthier and lost more weight:
1) Global warming would go down, because less consumption = less waste = less of an impact on our ecosystem
2) Less fats and more attractive people to look at
3) Lower insurance premiums as heart related problems decrease
4) More space on airplanes, which benefit from lower weight = lower fuel costs = lower ticket costs
The possibilities are limitless.

Many of the same top 'scientists' who were touting global cooling in the seventies began promoting global warming in the late eighties.
How did all that data from the 18th century to the 1970's that proved global cooling suddenly show that the eastern seaboard would be underwater by 2005?

If someone fat is "running" a marathon they are obviously not living a healthy lifestyle.

Exactly. If you're participating in a marathon and you're still fat, you're doing something wrong.
So they can feel less guilty eating cheeseburgers and fried chicken the rest of the year. I get the idea of a healthier lifestyle and wouldn't take that from anybody, because there are people who actually do try. They do it for probably since of achievement, maybe lost a bet, or to spark them to the "healthier lifestyle", new years resolution, threatened by their wife about leaving their fat axx, or they may actually do it for the reason the race was put on initially (ie. March of Dimes, Komen, Red Cross)

Ummmmmm weight has nothing to do with health or fitness, just look at Ragen Chastain, proud woman of size and an Elite athlete, who is an international dance champion and has raced a marathon. Currently in training for her IRONMAN

Not only that but she has perfect bloodwork - doctor says she's in great shape. Manages her athletics as well as a career as a humanitarian and motivational speaker

That is impressive. One can only imagine the times he could achieve if he had a faster car and more races did away with Rossi mats. I still think he could be the first person to cross the finish line in under two hours! Photograph that!

I watched the Boston Marathon this year from the first of the Newton hills and after watching the elites pass, saw the size of people just grow and grow until about 2 hours later I decided to leave in disgust at the fat clowns, jugglers, even fat midgets that pose as "Boston Marathon finishers" whoo-hoo. They were all walking. It looked like a Walmart crowd all headed in the same direction.
