I'm evaluating a few fall marathons and am hoping to get others opinions on them, especially comparisons between them. I'm looking at the following:
Toronto
Indianapolis
Richmond
Philadelphia
Cal International
I've got plans the weekend of Twin Cities or that would be on my list.
For others benefit I'll provide my comparison of the three fall ones I've done:
Portland - Good weather, 60 degrees when I did it. Overall fast course but tough rolling hills late. Race wasn't that well organized or supported when I did it. Misplaced mile marks and only gummy bears for fuel, were biggest down side. I still think this is a good place to run fast.
Des Moines - Colder than Portland, 45 degrees when I did it. Good course with flat last 10 miles. I think this is a better PR course than Portland due to location of hills. Way less crowd support though. Well run and good on-course support. Would definitely recommend. Can also do this cheaper than the others.
Chicago - Obviously blazing fast course and good crowd support. Weather was similar to Portland when I did it, but I think its more variable in Chicago than Portland. Wasn't a big fan of dealing with the masses and having 10000 people in the sub 3:15 corral. Time to get into corral was also a royal pain in the ass.
Good threads can be found on every race by googling "site:letsrun.com XXX marathon" but I haven't found a good discussion comparing different races, which is what I'm trying to start here.
