Ok so last weekend was my first meet running the mile. I got a time of 6:56.66 (sophomore girl in hs for reference), which in my opinion is a terrible time for me. I feel like I should be able to run it a lot faster considering I was able to run the 3200m with a 7:15 mile split. My first lap for the mile last weekend was 1:33, which was a pace I obviously couldn't keep up with for some reason, but it felt too slow to run it any slower than that if that makes sense. I'm not sure if my poor time was due to my bad pacing or something else. For training I run probably around 25 mpw, and we usually do speed workouts (ex. 5x150, then some 300s) towards the middle of the week. Qualifying time for a division meet for the 1600m is 6:15, I really want to get down to that time by the end of the season, I'm just not sure how. This weekend I'll probably be put in the slowest heat for the mile, the first girl will prob run 6:20 or somewhere around that, should I go out with her and try and keep up? Or should I stay back and push it the last couple of laps?
